Well, I just got the call today that I will have two full access paddock passes compliments of Jaguar Racing so it looked like my son and I would enjoy a great fathers day at indy. However, I for the life of me cannot find a hotel room anywhere near the city. Anyone have any leads or know of any availability? Thanks in advance for your help.

No, but I'll see to it that those passes don't go to waste!

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

Try some hotels farther out from the city. I have had to stay in Bloomington before - about a 1 hour drive to the track. I also rented a house once in Brown County - again about an hour from the track. The house deal was sweet - hot tub, pool table private pond for fishing, and secluded and quiet. Of course I took the whole family and they stayed there while I went back and forth to all the race activities for three days.

I am near the airport this time. But it costs a lot more than staying in Bloomimgton too.

Man - how did you score the paddock passes?

    Good luck.

Well, shucks! If you're not gonna let me use those passes, then maybe I can borrow them if I turn you onto the Wingate Inn in Plainfield. Go to Wingateinns.com.

I booked 2 rooms Fri & Sat today. $160/night (!), fairly close to the track.

Thanks for you help guys. I found a room at the Adams Mark near the airport for $169. Yeah!!

As for the passes I have been lucky to work for a company that happens to buy only Ford vehicles so for the last 2 years I have had pull with Jag put typically in the form of a 1-2 hour tour but it is all access. In 2001 I was lucky enough to get a pass with Manardi via Lease Plan which allowed me to come and go anywhere for all 3 days. Too cool for words!

the first year I went to the USGP, I stayed in Cincinatti...that was a dangerous trip back to the hotel each day. Gee, I just spent 8 hours watching racing and now I'm on an empty highway.....

last year I stayed in Plainfield, <30minutes to the track in traffic. Showed up a night earlier then I anticipated and all the hotels there had rooms available, although they tried to convince me it was "the last room in town."

This year I booked my room 6 months ahead of time, about 20 minutes from the track.

You'll pay a premium anywhere in Indy trying to make reservation this late, but if your in a position to get paddock passes coutesy of Jaguar Racing, then the money probably isn't an issue. If it is, I'll trade you the passes for my room, and I'll sleep in my car for four nights.

    sounds like you're set!

I sleep in a little old lady's yard on 26th. She saves a tree shaded spot for me.

sleeping bags, but 200 feet from Turn 4 gate!

one year the yellow hat was so used to me, she forgot to tear my ticket!
