Rice is forbidden even w/in Miata owners.
The Miatas (miatae?) look fine without adding lots of geegaws to them. The Simpson Kit looks great too, imho, although I'll add more go to mine first. Fwiw, Mazda did an official factory Ferrari spoof for Monterey one year: Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think if you look at my photos you will see where the Miata style derives it guts. That would be the Lotus Elan 26R. We never pretended to be Italian but it is always fun to race like one. Thats me on the right. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Check the TV for an advertisement for the new Dodge Magnum wagon, it shows it racing the second car. Pitiful!
I've driven quite a few Jackson supercharged Miatas, as well as Monster Miatas (5.0 V8 in them) and NONE of them are doing any faster than 13 second 1/4 mile times. The SC'd Miatas are all in the low 15's. Yes, it's quick. No, it's not lightning. The SC adds about 40hp at the wheels to that car, which makes it peppy but nothing to write home about. Nowhere near the "10's to 12's" ETs that someone hopingly wrote about.
Don't know if you're referring to my comments, but I wasn't writing about an ET of 11 or 12 hopefully, more "skeptically" I estimated that based on the 8 second 0 to 100 mph time the site had claimed. Your ET estimates of over 13 seconds are what I would expect for a supercharged Miata. Given that, don't you think the 0 to 100 mph figure of 8 seconds quoted on the site is total BS ? Would just like your opinion as a guy who's actually driven cars like this.
Nice Ben. You can improve your stability if you spread your legs apart a bit more, and make sure your heels are down, toes pointed away, arches flat to the ground. Drop the sear during your natural respiratory pause (at the bottom of your exhale of breath). Press gently my friend...
Dave- thanks for the suggestions! Already know about the breathing part, and I even try to drop the sear during a respite in heart beats. (I can get down to 40bpm if I'm focused.) I will try the leg stuff next time. Been thinking of adding a monopod to the stock as well (or using sandbags.) .338LM just seems to laugh at wind, great gun but it almost feels like cheating. Love the armalite brake, reduces recoil on par to a .243. Only downside is the cost/round
Stick with sand bags, or bring empty socks and fill them with dirt. I think it is even more practical to work with more "field expediant" stuff like using a ruck sack instead of the bipod, and a sleeping mat in place of the blanket. Makes for some more realistic training, and challenges.... and keeps your kit bag (and rifle) lighter. BTW, highly recommend a good quality sling on each of your rifles (I see one is equipped). You need to be able to free up your hands when carrying, and having a sling is the only safe way to do this. Practice with it too. Rapid movement to a shooting position from a slinged rifle is a good skill. You can try muzzle up on the dominant side, and muzzle down on the opposite side. There should be information on sling carry and deployment on the internet. Hey, remember what Clint Smith says..."always cheat, aways win..."
So my newly JR SC Miata is not a super car but a hell of a blast to toss around. Plus I have a really fun shiny car for just a few gs. I think I would take a few modern Ferraris in an autocross hands down. Top speed is not everything.
sorry to go with the " off topic " flow but.......( gun pics) ps Venusone, i know how nice your cars are, they would do well on any racetrack!!!
one is a 1970's colt with box, unfired. ( has new handgaurds, i hate the old style) the scoped one is a pre-ban colt lower with a USMC spec upper 1:9 twist heavy barrel ( ie ar15 A2 hbar). i dont like the 16inch bbl "m4" guns as they are not as accurate and have severe flash and are almost impossible to fire at night ( muzzle flash) without a silencer / supressor. for all the tree hugger anti-gun cry babies, i have a Federal Firearms License, everything you see is legal in my state. * we can have full auto and silencers in GA with proper paperwork and lots of $$$$$ * edit: looking for a nice Springfield M1A, and a semi auto german MG42 kit to build. ( in .308, not 8mm mauser)
