I was wondering who here has done the major service on their car themselves? I have done the engine out major service on my 348 by myself. I know that there are some guys that have done little things on their car. But, who has done the big stuff? You know the timing belt, valve adjustment, clutch job, the big things. The reason I ask is because I feel there are alot of owners that do this type of work themselves. I also want others to see the amount of guys that have done the biggie jobs. This way the owners that are considering trying something like this can see that they aren't alone. I can tell you that doing the engine out major service on my 348 was a great learning experiance, not to mention huge money saver. Now that I have done it I have no fear of working on this car at all. Even if the day ever comes that I have to rebuild the engine I will tackle that too. Though I hope it nevers comes to that, but even if it did I would still do it. So the rest of you guys that have done the big jobs yourself please post your comments. This is for every model. 308, 328, 348, dino, TR, Boxer, 355, 456, you get the point all of them.

Yes I have done cam belts, valve clearances, drive shaft etc. on my 328 and plan to do all the work the car will ever need, the only items that could be a problem are electronics which are harder to troubleshoot. I agree it is an excellent way to learn about the car, and after all it is just another car.

I've done lots of the big jobs on mine (308 GT4):

-Valve guides (along with seat cutting/lapping, new exhaust valves)
    -Clutch
    -Timing belts

Plus the usual maintenance items like fluid changes, tune-up's of the carbs and dizzy's (getting better with that each time). Etc...

    I've done majors on my:

    308QV
    TR (engine out)
    348 (engine out)
    F40

I had fun and learned alot...and saved huge money...and found out that the dealers are crooks and rob us at every opportunity that they can.

I also have done clutches on the 348 and TR.

    Ciao....Dino

I did the major on my 308. It was the first time I've ever changed a timing belt on a car. 500-miles and no problems so far.

I did timing belts, clutch, and Tubi headers and muffler on my 355 spider. I also am a mechanic full time. If its a computer related problem, I take the car to Algar and they tell me want is wrong with it and I fix it
