***Which direction should the sway bar bushings face?***

Hello "F"-Chatters,

Question: I took out the old sway bar bushings in my 79 308GTB, the ones that mount directly to the frame (not the links themselves), and forgot to look as to which direction the slits (slits,- to fit over the sway bar), should face? Should the slits face the front of the vehicle or the rear? There is a noticable difference in the thickness of rubber form either side, so I'm sure it's important.
