Where did you find the $105K figure? I don't see it on the link. I'm not sure if it's still for sale - that auction was in 2003. I'm sure it would be around $200K, since new it was probably much, much more than that.

Zach, I clicked the "Result" & searched under #190 2003, and one of the auction showed $105K, but it may not be sold as it didn't meet reserve. I don't know as I never auctioned a car before. Gotta go. Mahjong tonight!

Damn, at a 105 I would buy it, rip the interior, replace with CF and some nice Sparcos, clean and properly paint the wheels and replace the gold with TR. (as well as do a major which I will bet money on is due.)

i would easily give up my right to have children for that ex-Tyson car... LOOK at it...! Ok, the wheels are a bit dated as far as styling goes, but it's a DROP TOP TESTAROSSA...!

I can't add anything to the discussion, I don't know anything about these cars, but I have a pretty picture! This is a Lorenz & Rankl conversion.

sorry for bringing up this old post again.

ok, I went to carcity this morning to confirm this matter

(1)yes, it is an original Ferrari built 512TR spyder, not a Testarossa

(2)this is surely a collector item, and there are only 3 in the world that's from Ferrari including the Testarossa spyder models by Ferrari factory

(3)this is not for sale because the owner cannot buy it back once it is sold...and he wants to keep this one

There is also a 512 TR spyder "one-off" made by the Factory and delivered to Pininfarina himself. It is a dark metallic blue with black interior, s/n 97310.
I can post a picture should someone be interested...

you say the owner of a steel company bought both Mercedes CLK-GTR's? I thought one was bought by some toy company owner?

I saw the car in person last wednesday, really amazing looking i cannot believe its still a factory car but hey i don't doubt ferrari made it.

    Hey Edvar:

This car was in Shanghai last week. No plates (temporary China tags) and the vin plate was removed from the steering column. I tried checking the documentation for it, but could not find the telaio anywhere.

Erik, thanks A LOT for the picture of the 512 TR Spider! Although I can't confirm it, it might be s/n 97310, which also is dark blue (sera blue) with black interior and RHD. That car is or was owned by Alfred Tan.

The missing VIN plate might indicate that the car was made for the Sultan of Brunei. When I saw the one-off 550 Spider in Monaco a few years ago, a VIN plate was also missing. If you happen to see the car again, please check the door posts when the doors are open. It seems that the VIN may be visible over there. Also, do you have a picture of the interior? Reason is that some cars of the Sultan are fitted with an automatic gearbox .....

Anyway, thanks again for the picture!!!! :D

No picture of the interior, but I can confirm that it was a manual transmission. I appologize for the poor quality of this shot, but here is the back of the car.

Thanks again, Erik! See below for a picture modified with PhotoShop. Although I don't have a picture of s/n 97310, it's interesting to see the engine lid. It has holes in it, so it's a bit like the official Testarossa Spider made for Agnelli! Cool ..... :D

Michael Collins (seen in the far right of the picture above) may have a better shot of the car. He'll be over tomorrow afternoon.

I only know that the "FX" (based on an F512 M) used a semi automatic gearbox (like the "F1" system) made by Prodrive in the UK. The 550 Spider I saw in Monaco had a "normal" automatic gearbox, but I don't know who made it ....
