have my 308 in the shop for new master cylinder & Booster. While road testing, they tell me if they get on the brakes very hard, it sometimes pulls to the right. They've blead all the lines, check the calipers & rotors but see nothing. They suggest it might be a brake line starting to collapse. Plausible? anybody see this before? thanks
I concur that it could be a brake line. It could also be poor pad caliper pad-to-rotor adjustment in one of the rear calipers. They're sure they have all the air out? Would recommend a push-style PRESSURE bleed. I did all of this with new calipers, and my braking wasn't correct until I also changed the lines. --Mike
Collapse is not the correct word....swelling is.......they can swell internal and restrict fluid, usually from releasing back to the master cylinder. But it usually causes a caliper to drag and not pull under braking...... Did anyone ever get fluid grease or whatever on the rotors and thus on the pads? also check for kinked metal brake lines since this occured suddenly after a service. I'll bet thats more likely what you will find. If you have flexible lines in te 25 year old range it may be a good idea to replace them just on princple, if not for safety. Check suspension bushings too, they can deflect under braking loads and cause severe alignment changes and make the car dart or pull if deteriorated.
Just picked the car up. it also pulls, though not too badly, for normal braking. The shop says they're certain there is no air in the line but flushed the lines again just to be sure. I suspect the new M/C just make the pull more prevelant. The shop just ordered the brake lines from Ferrari. The originals are on the car, so it's not a bad investment. I've been wanting to rebuild the calipers...specifically to address the parking brake. I guess now is the time.
