NSX was the last sports car tuned by Senna himself.

    Read this: http://www.tsys07804.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/nsx_and_senna.htm

The NSX-R is the lighter version of that very car, and even years after it should be a 'old' car, it still kicks @$$, and is good with minimal service for over 100k miles.

Anyone who says the NSX has no soul seriously should evaluate what they consider 'soul,' as that car is the product of utter F1 domination (Honda) and one of the best drivers in history (Senna)... how much more soul do you want?

Great car, I respect it, but I love my slow ferrari more...:)

I know all that about the NSX but i still dont understand how a updated 15 years old car can be as fast as a Stradale or a GT3 ...

Grip. You can either have more power, or more grip -- if you pick grip, you carry more speed through the corners.

True. Suspension, handling, and overall balance is what helps the NSX-R keep up with the big boys. Sure, it's way down on power, but if you know how to drive it, and NSX can be very rewarding.

Wow.. I never thought I word see the words "NSX" and "so fast" in the same sentence on this site. :)

The NSX-R is an amazing machine no doubt. It can carry more speed through the corners than just about any car out there. The downside is that when the road gets straight, all of the competition (CS, gallardo etc) catch up.

It still needs another 100HP IMO.

The nsx-r also weighs about the same as the average American.

arggh!!! i clicked on a link and lost everything i typed here.....

    ok quick quick summary:

    NSX supercharger options:
gruppe m, basch boost, comptech. depending on your fuel management system, they run around $7000-$12,000 installed. reliability for baschboost these days is in question. performance-wise they seem to run around 400hp +/- 50

    turbo options:
factor-x, gerry johnson. prices start where SC prices end. performace.... SICK! factor-x just dynoed their $20,000 FX-500 package at 590hp and ran an 11.44 quarter mile ... see here for video

    http://www.lvracingscene.com/videos/stream/10-04-03_FactorX_NSX_11.44.wmv

reliability remains to be seen, but gerry has been running 500+ hp in his nsx for at least a couple of years now. remember for most of us with an NSX, reliability is a HUGE issue. i love being able to hop in my nsx and drive 3000 miles without worrying about anything except tires, gas and oil change.

thanks for the welcome, im robr on there as well. i used to be on the fcar maillist when i was trying to decide between a mondial 3.2, a 348 or an nsx. the reliability factor was what ultimately swayed me. maybe someday i'll be in a better position :).

after seeing all the gorgous cars at the running of the bulls, i'm even more hooked (and hearing the pair of 360's tearing out of there..... what a sound :)).

Hi, amenasce. According to Sport Auto's standardized testing procedure for stock production cars (with test driver Horst von Saurma at the wheel), the NSX-R is not as fast as the Stradale around the 'Ring. It is 13 seconds slower. It's also 1.6 seconds slower around the Hockenheim club circuit.
The 7:56 time you're thinking of was done by an NSX specialist (and NSX owner), "Gan San" of Best Motoring. He's done development work for Honda on the NSX-R (the older one as well) and S2000. Point-to-point, that 7:56 time is actually closer to 8:03.
That being said, I think if Dario Benuzzi has the advantage of turning dozens/hundreds of laps around the Nurburgring, I'd bet he could set a slightly better time still than 7:56 in the Stradale.
This does not mean the NSX-R is not an amazing and exceptionally competent track weapon. Because it is.

That is the retarded. If it is 7:56.. it is 7:56.. not 8:03...

Also, he could have gone faster. There were many times that he left it bouncing off the rev limiter. I would not be surprised if he could knock off another 2 seconds or more.

The lap timing of the video starts at the end of the straight, right around pit exit. It stops as he's coming around the last corner. That's before pit entrance, and does not count his time coming back across the same point (end of the straight). It's a Point A to Point B timing, not Point A to Point A. Watch the video again, measuring from Point A to Point A. Say, the moment he comes around that very last corner. You'll see the lap is closer to 8:03. I don't care what the video counter says. God himself could claim it's a 7:56 lap, it makes no difference. Measuring a complete lap on the media player counter tells you it's not a 7:56 lap.

None of which matters, because we don't have the time of a Ferrari specialist around this track. Whether Gan San could have knocked off another couple of seconds is irrelevant. Anything within about 5 seconds on such a long track with so many variables involved is virtually the same. As such, we have to accept the times set by Sport Auto driver Horst von Saurma. It's not like he has anything against Japanese cars. He recently raced an NSX-R this past weekend in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring.

Remember, this is just the 'Ring. It doesn't mean the results will be the same everywhere else for every other driver. Recall that Steve Millen was considerably faster at Thunderhill Park than he was with the NSX (R&T, 1/01). 6.5 seconds. Granted the NSX-R moves things up a notch. But then, so does the Stradale.

BTW, if anyone else hasn't seen the video, here it is:

    Meant to say:
"...Recall that Steve Millen was considerably faster at Thunderhill Park with the standard 360 Modena than he was with the NSX..."

Guibo, that is interesting that you mention that....Cuz on the Nordschielf fan website I looked at they said Von Saurma took the NSX-R around at 8:09 and had the distance as 20km. It then lists the 7:56 by Gan San as a 20.8km ride.

    A) If that data is correct, is Gan San really that fast? I doubt it as that is a *monster* increase in speed.
    B) If that data is incorrect, do you believe that they got the distance wrong for Gan San's run?

Anyone know what type of tires the NSX-R runs on? That could be the answer to all of our questions.
