Can you guys tell me how I can change the door tumblers (key slots) in the doors on a 348? I recently got a new ignition switch, which is fairly easy to change, but it includes the door tumblers as well and I don't know how to change them. Any help is appreciated.

When did Ferrari start using the same key for both the ignition and the doors?

Don't know the answer but that is how it is on the 348.

You have to remove the door pannels to get access to the door locks.

    1) Remove the screws that hold the trim to the door, on the outer edge.

    2) Pop off the bottom part of the door pannel. Use a pannel popper for this, or a putty scraper. The pannel is cardboard and the clips that hold it in place are plastic so you don't wanna bust them.

    3) Remove the screw that holds the lever to open the door, and remove the lever.

    4) Remove the three screws that hold the handle to the door, and remove the handle.

    5) remove the screws that hold the arm rest part of pannel to the door and remove the arms rest. Don't forget to disconnect the window switches from the back of the arm rest.

    6) You now should have enough room to get to the door lock. Make sure that you have the window rolled all the way up. Other wise you won't be able to get to the lock. Now remove the old lock and replace it with the new one.

I had mine apart a couple of years ago, and it was a BEAR to get at all the pieces after removing the inner door panel. At the time I didn't know about removing the outer door panel, which apparently would make things a lot easier - I still haven't ever removed the outer panel, but I have seen threads here that make it sound fairly simple and worth the time.

It isn't difficult to remove and replace the tumbler once the pushbutton assembly is in your hand.

No. (It wouldn't be much of a joke, would it? ;) )

The most modern Ferrari I'm familiar with is a 308, which uses one key for the ignition, and another for the various door and lid locks, including the locks for the rear quarterlight window louvres.

My 1967 330 also has similar different keys for ignition and other locks. (In fact, they key blanks look identical from the 330 to the 308.)

So did Ferrari consolidate keys with the 348?

Well, it's not an issue any more for me. I sold the car today and gave the new owner the assembly. (I will install it for him if the existing one starts to give him trouble though) Wow, I already miss that child (348). Thanks guys
