Top Gear magazine, a noted Brit car mag, just published a list of the 50 WORST cars of all time. Written by the redoubtable Jeremy Clarkson, it delves into some fairly esoteric quasi-"cars", including a host of Japanese, American and European junk. Oh, and especially Korean piles of scrap metal. But the only real "luxury" cars on the list are the Lexus SC430, the Porsche Cayenne and the SAAB 9-3 Viggen convertible (an astonishing #2).

What was the ONLY exotic on the list? Surprisingly, no Lamborghinis were listed. This from a writer who's long lamented the very existence of the Lamborghini Countach, having stated in the past, "It's not the worst car I've ever been in because of course I've driven a Nisan Micra, but it's damned close, it's like driving a washing machine only the visibility is worse", and "So what's the Countach Anniversary like to drive? Two words will do. One is rude and ends with -ing. The other is 'awful'."

No, the only exotic car on the list? The poor Ferrari Mondial.

Even Ferrari screws up. And it did so big time with this one. After the boring 400/412 saloons, this is the Ferrari you're most likely to encounter on a used car lot - the Ferrari that, the experts suggest, you should buy instead of a Nissan Primera. And it's the Ferrari, moreover, often encountered with someone behind the wheel who doesn't look like he should own a Ferrari. It's a scabby horse. Why? Well, even in black it's no beauty.

Much too bad. A nice Mondial T cabrio would make a handy way to transport the baby and the both of us . . . .

Everybody has an opinion. The QV's and later are great cars! Even the 8 isn't terrible. Top down driving, room for two small kids, good power and handling. I like the way it looks too. The T is even pretty fast! I would say the coupe is maybe not so great for some people but I know owners say it's a better drive overall.

And it's not the car's fault if he encountered a poor driver in one.

Clarkson is a good host and puts on a great show. But his opinion on cars are pretty stupid sometimes...

I just watched his "100 greatest cars of all time." He had the Ferrari 355 as #3, but the Modena 360 in the high 90s!!!!!!!!!!!!

I once saw the show where he did the road test on the 355,and he described as the best car ever so am surprised it"s no.3 but I suppose it would be as he later said the same thing about the MB SL55 AMG,and guess what he traded the 355 for that, not biased LOL.

Top Gear is car-porn; nothing more, nothing less!

I prefer 5th Gear to Top Gear because of Tiff and Vicki Butler-Henderson.

    Jeremy Clarkson who???

No doubt other so-called "car expert" with a very high opinion of himself...

He can kiss my rear-end....That's what I think of his opinions and his mag.

    Cheers - VK

What a screwy article. He states no real criterion for his list. I couldn't make it all the way through, but it appeared that there is an MG on the list which he liked.

    That article is total crap.

E.g. The Lexus SC430 (the car in T3 driven by Kristanna Loken) was listed at 36. The reason given : "OK, so you're not going to be too down-hearted if you buy the lucky scratchcard and win yourself an SC430. It's always going to start and the roof isn't going to leak. But the whole image thing is just awful. There's no denying that this flip-roof gin palace is the flash conveyance preferred by flabby old film producers to lure actresses - the waterbed dynamics are ideal for wandering hand-trouble and cigar-chomping. Horrible!"

Now, in all that pretentious verbiage, I really couldn't find a single objective criticism. The SC430 is not one of my favorites, but it's a fairly fast (0 to 60 in under 6 seconds), fairly good looking, fairly luxurious sports convertibles with good reliability. What the heck is wrong with the pouffes doing the reviewing ?

And the Mondial, while certainly not one of my favorite Ferraris, is hardly one of the worst cars in the world.
