I agree - Lackland is not exactly the best area (SW side), although it's very nice if you go a little further west along 90 to 151-W towards 1604 loop. There's Hyatt Hill Country and Westover Hills, Westcreek, etc. Those are also great areas with not too bad a commute to Lackland. The Medical Center area is fine (a mix of great and not-so-great neighborhoods) but the traffic can be a real bear and access to I-10 or the 410 loop can be hell depending on where you live. Maybe things will improve once the I-10 construction is completed (...when hell freezes over).

The tech at Barrett seems great and I've talked to him a few times. Although I do my own work he has been great about giving advice and pointers and even offered to look things over if I got stuck - great guy. There's also Kehl Motors here in town and Moorespeed in Austin if you want good quality alternatives to the dealer service for way less cash. PM me when you get into town and I can tell you more. Good luck with the PCS move.

    Thanks for the advice.
Would like a 20 - 30 minute commute, and less is ok. They've also been pitching North Central and near the Quarry and Alamo Heights. We'll see - a lot to see. The West areas sound nice - is the commute very long? Actually don't mind longer commute if less traffic (i.e. Ferrari-friendly). Any and all advice welcome.
Will need to get my rear alignment re-checked after lowering the car, so perhaps that will give a reason to ship to Barrett. Also need to find a Dyno-jet chassis dyno to continue my car puttering.

John - Congrats on the lessons - I am indeed looking to get another plane while I am in San Antonio. Looking for an 85+ hp Aeronca Champ and a quiet grass field to relax; of course, if you know where a BT-13 or a T-6 flyer or project is, well...I might be persuaded :).

Looking forward to meeting everyone soon,

alamo hts and the quarry area is real nice from the medical center it would be a little further (5 min)to lackland but those areas are very ferrari friendly, its the old money area, but it would be what time of day you would have to drive to and from work.

shan is right medical center traffic is crazy plus they will never finish 10, where he is talking about is by 1604 and 151 a lot of nice new houses in that area, but far away from the fun side of town, if you lived by the quarry, you will be in the middle of everything. if you live off 1604 and 151 you would be closer to work but far away when driving a ferrari to nice places.

i dont know of any of those planes you mentioned, but if you need help with that just let me know. I should get my ppl in the next 60 days. that would be fun I love old planes too.

The movers are packing me out here in Alexandria today - I had forgotten how much I really dislike moving.
Graduated yesterday with a Masters Degree from National Defense University in 'National Strategic Resourcing" despite my professors' protests after I told them there was really no such verb as 'resourcing' and they needed to reprint all of the diplomas for the past 80 years.
Gen Richard Meyers (Chairman JCS) spoke and handed out our diplomas. He actually spoke to me like we were old buds - he said " Who are you?" - We're pretty close I think despite the fact I spilled his drink. (just kidding)

Expect to hear about some more Alamo Heights Townhouses today or tomorrow. Appreciate all the great advice!!
Will re-enter the AF at the Change of Command Friday 18 June if I can find my uniforms.

Hope to see all of you soon!

I dated a girl in Alamo Hts. for a while....

Moorespeed just finished with my car, very careful guys! Give 'em a thumbs up!

I'll be over at Gruene Hall next Thursday night for Jesse Dayton, staying at the Mansion next door. Gonna tube the river early Friday then pick up my car in Austin later that day.

Come have a beer at the Hall and see the best guitar picker in Texas right now, IMO

Careful for low flying Maranellos ;)

Glad you survived move...every time I move, I just want to burn it all and start over, but I never do. Mebbe we can get together in July, the Austinites/SAN crowd? I'm out from surgery now, but hopefully in few weeks.

Use detector on 410/10/281/16, and Alamo Hts, Shavano park, 1604. I mean it. I have V1's in everything, plus an extra which is loaned to inlaws for vacation. PM me if V1 (2yo) is something you'd need.

Anyway, try Dicks on riverwalk, PF Chang in Quarry if you've never tried one.
