Great pics. Just a correction, it is the "Hawaiian Tropic" girls not "Tropicana" girls. Tropicana is an American orange juice brand, I was curious before I saw the pics as to what orange juice girls looked like. =)
Having been with 355fiorano on the trip and walked up and down the pit straight that 1) close up the hawaiin tropic girls were not so impressive close - air stewardness thickness of foundation and 2) despite having to wear more clothes, the Ferrari girls were of much greater quality. I have no photos to prove this and apologise profusely for this error!
I think in Europe they have Tropicana as a sun tan lotion. I vaguely remember that. Orange Juice girls In big round orange outfits wobbling along pit lane LOL Pictures are great. Le Mans had probably the BEST weather you can ever wish for this year! Your pictures are proof.
Ernie As the wearer of the hat I have to admit to it being a rubber version of an aviator's hat. This has several pro's/minuses. On the upside, with no real glass goggles it rapidly folds inand out of the door pocket of the car. Plus, given I only wear it with the roof off, these are the times that the weather is sunny or warm - I suspect that the real leather ones could be too warm. The chin strap do flap about in the wind. Watch out on any real one's there is no metal on the end of the straps or your chin will get a repeated slapping. And now for the downside............................
.......................... after wearing a sweaty rubber hat for more than 10 minutes your whole head smells like a condom!
Good pics... I was there as a guest of Audi UK Team Veloqx. I have a bunch of pics I took but I have yet to figure out how to view them here. More video than pics though... For what it's worth I also got some fun rides that weekend with the "Ferrari UK" bannered Enzo (Marlboro Red when ordered, now a standard paint code called Scuderia Red) and I successfully hijacked every scooter/4 wheeler in the possession of Team Veloqx...
Nick, SMPaton, Nizza, 355fiorano and myself were all in Audi UK's lounge as well. A shame we didn't meet. FYI I wasn't wearing the aviator's hat in the lounge
GTRPower, have you seen this curious character in the Audi hospitality ? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Also, for all the people that posted their appreciation, a BIG thank you to all for showing it It's always gratifying to get such nice comments ! Thanks Philip
LOL, Izza! Thanks for the "Up close" report! I see that a lot here, too. Although I was in a Honky Tonk here this weekend where the youngster serving my beer looked like Brittany Speers (before the two marraiges anyway!)
Of course there were also the alternative pit stops on the way as well Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow - great pix. Attending this event has always been on my list, but I think I best move it up a few pegs!! 355fiorano - love the TDF/crema combo!! Cheers Kevin
Yes, definitely a shame. I got to LeMans on Thursday evening... hitched a ride from the TGV Gare du Mans with a Audi Japan Team Goh car... got into the track after the 9pm qualies, then holed up in the team bus lounge catching up with old friends until midnight when we popped the cork after securing the front row... Spent Friday ripping around on the scooters and the Enzo until it had to go to the driver's parade... Was on the grid on Saturday afternoon with the R8s and spent the first race hour in the grandstands. I was one of the Asian guys in a grey Audi UK Team Veloqx polo and Dana Design daypack on the first day, then on the second day I was in a purple Team Veloqx polo... Now if I could just figure out how to post pics here... Every time I try it tells me the pic is too big...
The coincidences get bigger!! We were staying in the same hotel as teh Goh team. SMPaton and I nipped in the other Audi Lounge for the first hour of racing as it was less busy and we got up to the windows easier. See you next year?!!
Yes, see you next year! We have unfinished business (second place sucks) and from what I understand of the situation there could be dramatic changes too. I plan on attending the LMES Spa race in September too, so maybe you'll be there? I intend to fly to London and drive up with my friends... For what it's worth after this trip I have an even geater appreciation of my 355, especially compared to pretty much any Porsche (of which I had the pleasure of testing back to back, 355 vs. 996 GT2). The mechanical grip the 355 can generate, when set up properly, is astounding. My friend's 355 has a lot of very trick, very sorted out parts that allow him to trailbrake into corners and get on full throttle very, very early, and I intend to ape his car as much as possible. I think his car is literally 3% faster overall over mine without any significant engine or gearing differences.
philip, jack russell racing: thanks for your help. im going to get two hats so me and my dad can drive around in them! ernie
