Everyone here has said "I wish I had kept that ________ I owned when I was a kid or the Car Mom or dad didn't think was anything "Special" After the Uninspired 80's and slightly better 90's What are the cars from the 80-90's that might just become "Classics". We know the old 60-70's Cudda's Mustangs Birds etc... I think the collectability needs to be on relitive rare but interesting or just underapreaciated at the time. The Fcars and Pcars are too easy so lets see from others... From the 80-90's My list with some omissions Buick Reatta (odd never sold worth a damn but unique) Buick Grand National (bit of muscle in a vast wasteland) Pontiac Fiero GT (only the V6 variant) Dodge Shelby GLH (ok not just a Omni but an Omniborghini) The Masariti Chrysler convertable Toyota Supra Turbo AWD Nissan 300 Z Twin Turbo Nissan 280 Z Mazda RX7 TT Mazda RX7 (last gen) Mazda 323 GTX AWD Audi Coupe Quattro (1st Gen) Any thoughts on this, As always the Future collectabilty seems to be baised on "What was hot when I was young" which explains the "american Muscle" thing going on now. or the low sales that left very few on the road like the Reatta..
OK you are on the right road with these Had not thought of the Del Sol but you are right on that one VW Golf GTI VR6 VW Corrado VR6 The tough part is finding ones that are "Unaltered"
1988 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z 5.7 1988 Honda Civic Si (try to find one that not been riced out) 1987 Buick Grand National GNX 1985 Ford Mustang SVO
Corvette ZR-1 and Z06 1st generation Honda CRX (stock -- really hard to find now) Firebird GTA Monte Carlo SS AeroCoupe Porsche 944 turbo/928 s4 C4 Corvette verts Ford Lightning Chevy SS454 Dodge SRT10 Typhoon
I was thinking about the Miata but there are soooo many of them It would be a good choice none the less
-Syclone (more so than the Typhoon since the Sy was only made for one year) -Mustang SVO 85.5+ (increased boost and air-water intercooler) -GNX -2002 LS1 F-bodys maybe. I can't see any Civic being a collector car ever. Honda made too many of them, even Si's. One thing that is common among collector cars is that they really weren't all that popular when they were being produced. The SVO wasn't popular because it cost more than the GT but wasn't any faster. The Syclone was a very limited, single year production run. It was a truck that couldn't be used as a truck. The Typhoon was much more useful as a "real" vehicle and hence, more popular.
MX-6 Integra Type-R Old Sentra SE-R 1st Gen Civic 3rd Gen Prelude (VTEC) CRX was a good call, how did we miss that?!?!
Seconded on the Typhoon/Syclone. had a roommate with one, neighbor with the other. lots of fun, well... in a straight line.
porsche 993, particularly S variants, and RS. 512tr, 550 barchetta (harkens back to the older cars, 166 mm etc). hmm..what else?
Tis the reason for the thread - no? Good choices but really thinking of the Underwhelmed in its own time kind of classic ie the OLD Pontiac Tempest
-first gen miata, especially limited edition models like the hunter green and yellow. -original condition Honda CRX -late 80's BMW M5 -1996 Corvette Grand Sport -1993 Porsche American Roadster -1989 and 1994 Porsche Speedster -1989 Mercedes 560SL -1993-1999 Mercedes CL600(big V12 S-class coupe) -BMW 850csi -early 90's Mercedes 500E/E500
Interesting Porsche choices. Been looking for a '94 speedster. Perhaps also the America Roadster. I don't know how valuable these will ever be, but I think folks will appreciate them more as time passes. As for the 993 series, what limited edition stands out? I like the split grill 98s. The turbo S?
