when/where did you click the pic's? I love the 288GTO's and have loads of pictures of one I came across at Willow Springs racetrack back in '87. I'll have to go dig them up. The owner picked it up in Itlay at list price!

If I'm not mistaken, the fellow who owns this GTO that JMJ575M has posted pics of also has an F40 and F50. He's a Chicago area resident. I've seen this GTO close up and it's pristine and gorgeous. Not very many miles on it (maybe 5k?) Nice carbon fiber collection.

Are we sure the race car is not a replica based on a 308?

I saw a similar car @ LRP last summer, but it had a race/308 interior and was clearly a replica.

    Looks nice tho.

If the car hps posted the pics of, is a replica, then it is a darn good one. Externally everything is there.

The one from Lake Forest is real. I was there too and was surprised at the sound of the engine. Not what you expect, no roar or anything, more of a high pitched hiss, very Ferrari unlike, at least as far as I know.

    Yes, please post those.

Is there anything more gorgeous than a 288GTO? :)

Definitely a real GTO in the first 2 pics. The wheels are not original and 5 bolt, but it looks like they have an adapter to the GTO central mount. The front wheels look to wide though.
Anyone have more pics, or more pixels as in higher resolution, from this GTO?

I call not-real. I think that the front splitter looks the wrong angle. I also find it v hard to believe someone would do this instead of an F40 for serious track work.

    No longer here
It's a real 288 GTO, imported in the mid-1980s under the then-existing "race car" exemption by Tom Williamson, former Chairman of the Ferrari Club of America.

The Box 7 race car exemption. There's supposed to be 10 to 15 GTOs imported under this, according to the 288 GTO Buyers' Guide in Forza No. 17. Not sure what the current regulations are though.

I noticed the same thing about the 360GT when i went up to VIR this fall. It has more of the race car straight pipe whine than a grunt. I kind of like the sound. Especially when the rpm's pick up a bit!

Well, the GTO at Lake Forest didn't really rev it up, so it remained a very mechanic hiss. To be honest I was disappointed and thought there was something wrong with the engine, which I'm quite sure is not the case. A carburated 308 sounds much better. Kinda odd.

Again as for the first two pics: Has to be real. Or they got more right in this 'rebody' than I have ever seen: Fenders, mirrors, engine cover, quarter rear windows, even the door knobs. It's got to be real. Only the wheels look odd as Bert pointed out.
