There is a Ferrari turbo for sale on ebay. He's not sure if its for a 208 or 288 GTO. Does anyone know if they are the same turbos?

I'm certainly not an expert on the subject, but I don't really know that there IS such a thing as a Ferrari turbo. The early 208's used a KKK turbo, the later ones used IHI. The 288GTO used a pair of IHI's. Someone with more knowledge than myself may be able to tell you otherwise, but I would think that the car is made to fit the turbo, not the other way around. The same turbo used on the Ferrari might fit an Audi, or a Volvo, or a commercial truck of some kind. But it would be worth more money if it went onto a Ferrari, right???

    If I'm wrong.............nevermind.

The turbo is chosen to fit the mass flow(air and fuel) and pressure requirements of the engine. An engine with 2 litre displacement producing 250hp and an engine of 2.8 litre displacement producing over 400hp will not have the same turbos. (don't correct me on the HP values I wrote they are purely to make the point and off the top of my head)
    Cheers

The 288 GTO had twin turbos similar to the F40. The 208 had a single turbo.

Have to see pictures of it but this is what was made for the Italion market:

208 GT4/GTS/GTB which basically are two litre 308 cars.
GTB/GTS Turbo which are basically 2 litre 328 cars.

    Hope it helps.

    That is not entirely correct.

208 was purposely built by Ferrari for domestic market (VAT 18% up to 2000 cc, 32% if bigger engine installed) with a normal 2 liters engine. This model was identical to 308.
208 turbo was built to increase the power of the engine. Early 208 turbo were again very similar to 308.
When 328 entered into production (1986), Ferrari released the 208 Turbo Intercooler, identical to 328 apart from NACA type air intake used for the intercooler.

That is true, but not what I meant ;-)

The 208 in the nametag is not on the '328 look-a-likes'. The name have then simply be GTB Turbo or GTS turbo.

The '308 look-a-likes' have the 208 tag on the back.

So in short a Turbo without a number should be the 328 car, a Turbo with the 208 number on the back is a 308 car.

It is highly unlikely that you can find a Ferrari 288 GTO ( Engine F114B ,V8, 2.8 liter , biturbo ) on eBay because this car spec is a true collector item ( only 272 built in 1984-85 ,if I remember well ).
208 GTS or GTB with V8 , 2.0 liter engine, single turbo are in Europe quite common.

Oops! Drinking 1 glass of wine too much, I looked again at the picture in the auction, definitely not GTO, with the 3 central outlets. Probably F40 or somebody had a spare GTO-evolution muffler?

    Auction shows VU5.

For F40, my notes state VU7 in 1990, updated to VU11, finally VU12B. Hmmm...

Doesn't match 288 part numbers 123384 SX, or 122814 DX.

This it is the TURBO of my car, GTS TURBO of year 1987; as the salesman explains, it is a turbo IHI of japon. The previous series had a kkk TURBO and 40 HP less.
the turbos are not equal of 288 GTO, is different references.
