I think many are beautiful but there's no doubt for me the P3/P4 is simply stunning :)
I think you have missed one very important car that should have been included ... the 250LM. I would choose a LM over a GTO ... Pete
So you are telling me that a 250 LM is less expensive than a 335 S and 312 P ... gosh I thought a LM was right up there with the GTOs regarding cost! I think I need to have another look at what a 312 P is ... Pete
The only cars on your list in this price range are the GTO and P4. If you were going for big $, you should have included a couple of the Testa Rossas (TR 60, 330 TRI/LM, etc).
I'm certainly NO market expert on these cars, but, of the two, I would imagine that 0870 would bring the most money. Even so, $10 million? Of course, any of these car is only worth what someone is willing to pay, but I don't believe the 312P is that high up in the Ferrari heirarchy. JMO.
For those like me who need a reminder of what a 312P is here is a photo from www.barchetta.cc (er, follow the link): http://www.barchetta.cc/All.Ferraris/ferrari.by.serial.number.summary/images/0002/b-13-1.jpg Pete ps: Also for this dummy what is so special about the 335 S, not a number I have ever heard of before. Now a 375 or something like that gets me excited, so please can somebody fill me in (plus a picture please)
I would need another expert opinion then . I read in a french Ferrari mag that those 2 cars would be worth around that sum...Well this mag said a lot of BS too so i dunno How much do you think it would be worth ? PSK , I posted a pic of a 335 S on this very thread .
Ok i posted a pic of a 315S and thats the car i was thinking about ... http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Detail/0684.315S.htm
Andrew At this level it's really hard to say. It really is what someone is willing to pay. IMHO it's history that gives cars big prices but in a way an auction is the only way to really know.
Okay that car is pretty damn special since it won the Mille Miglia!!!!!! and the rest of its history is pretty damn good too ... Thanks for the link. Pete
Sorry to diverge but, back on the subject of the "Breadvan" for a moment: There are a couple of letters in response to Alan's article that appear in Cavallino 137 and one of them sheds a little more detain on the arrest/impound story. More importantly, the reader has submitted two photos of 2819 GT that were taken at the police station in St. Tropez. Just thought some of you might be interested.
Who, us...? Nahhh... No one here is interested in that silly thing... ...ok, ok, i'm just kidding, hurry, share, please...! i can't wait much longer...!
Regarding cost, I think a GTO recently went unsold at auction for 6 million - didn't sell at that cost. I'd say they would probably trade arond 5 million now, but who knows - usually they trade hands behind closed doors.
After a lot of searching through all the piles of magazines I have, I found my January 1997 Road and Track. In this issue is Phil Hill's list of his top 10 favorite Ferraris of all time: 1957 Ferrari 335S 1962 330TRi/LM 1951 212 Barchetta 1960 Dino V-6 Forumla 1 1960 250GT SWB 1962 250 GTO 1956-57 500 TR/TRC 1966 330 GTC 1997 F355 1997 550 Maranello I think the last two were chosen because they were the two current models that he thought embodied what Ferrari was all about.
Damn, that looks sweet... If i had something like that, i'd move to where it's always sunny and i'd drive it to work everyday...
One of these was registered as a farm implement and driven on the public roads of New Zealand's south island for a few years with a Morris Minor body on it. It was entered in some saloon car based race series ... and then rebodied with a home made sort of GTO shell ... I believe this (ie. the ex-NZ car) is the same car that had that huge accident at Goodwood not long ago that put Nigel Corner in hospital ... and has since been restored and sold. Pete
the odds that we see one of those for sale is very tenuous... 0870 belonfs to bardinon france, 0872 to sachs, USA. the first one 0868 had been transformed by pininfarina into the 512 S berlinetta speciale after an accident in 1969. it's hard to put a price on it as it is a one-off, but it should be about the same range...
