Son should do what he likes to do, if it happens to be something that makes money, then all the better. I think healthcare will be one of the hottest industries going forward. That could be nurse, PA, doctor, drug rep, medical equip sales, nursing home/hospital admin, or whatever.

My impression of what the big money users do on FerrariChat.com is specialty lawyers, specialty doctors, business owners, or time share sales. :D

I work for an Automotive Accident Reconstruction Firm. It can be a very high paying job if you are a testifying engineer. To do that you need at least a Masters degree, but a Ph.D. is preferable. Guys that have a Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering make ~$400/hr. There is one person I know of with a Ph.D. in this buisness. He decided he was going to retire, so for the next 5 years he raised his rates $100/hr per year. He figured by the time he was to retire he would be too expensive to hire. Well, it has been over 5 years and he is still busy as ever. He makes about ~$1000/hr.

    Don't forget CONSTRUCTION, baby!

You could start at the bottom with a shovel in your hand, and mud on your boots, and years later, end up with MILLION$!

Then on the weekends, you could garden at your girlfriend's house, with a shovel in your hand, and mud on your boots!

What he should do, dependiong on where you live, is buy a scag mower, weed whacker and blower. Cut lawns in the neighboorhood, and eventaully buy a truck, then cut lawns inthe town. There is so much money to be had cuting grass that its not funny. There are estates near where i live and most of the guys with the really big houses own lawn care businesses and didnt go to college.

Mark, without any college degree or anything, i work for an insurance brokerage, managing the office... It's not exactly high-paying but it's better than stocking shelves or ringing up slurpees... THE MOST IMPORTANT THING i can suggest is that he gear himself towards doing something he'll ENJOY. i can't stress that enough...

Two men held up a bank. They cleaned out the cash drawers and then
herded the tellers and clerks into the vault.

They were getting ready to make their getaway when one of the tellers
whispered, "Hey, buddy, would you do me a favor?"

One of the robbers said, "What's on your mind, pal?"

"Would you mind taking the books too? I'm five thousand short."

Although I am a senior in highschool now, this thread made me remember something my grandfather always used to say. "Do something you like to do and the money will come." He was a commercial builder like my dad so I guess that it applies to that business. But, FWIW I always liked it.

He needs to go to school preparing for what he likes to do or what he might be interested in. If school is not an option then go into sales. Commission sales are some of the highest paying occupations.

You won't get a magic formula with this post.

Almost anything can be turned into big money given the right insight and attention. Including the grass cutting - I wouldn't of thought it.

Sales of anything is good as a start, and interacting with people. I hated sales stuff, but darn it if that's not where the business value often gets made, which results in big sales happening, and then more $.

I'm pushing our kids for a degree first (Universities are more affordable up here I think but they're lots of years away), and then they can do what they want.
