That gives all of us a bad reputation. I always keep it under 165 when I'm drunk and in a 55 zone.

  5. Why do morons like LASwede keep showing such a disregard for the rules?

I think Rob should start banning people who post OT material in General Ferrari Discussion.

Man this guys is an idiot. Don't get me wrong, I am not supporting what he did in any way, but....

Did you all see that he was some of his charges were:
    1. Reckless Driving (obviously)
    2. Limitations of overtaking on the left (ok)
    3. Exceeding maximum posted speed limit (duh)
    4. Recklessly endagering another person
    5. Driving vehicle at (un)safe speed for given conditions

Now I think this guy should not be on the road for a long time, but isnt it funny of how many different charges that you can get for "speeding" ???

thanks for pointing out that there is an OT section, albeit in a not-so-subtle manner. was not aware of that, but thanks for pointing it out to me for future reference.

The speed was a little high, but I've seen guys with tickets over 150 on 280 up in Northern California on more than one occasion.

i believe so... Anything over 30 over the limit (in NY at least) is an automatic mandatory appearance in court... i would think that, at close to triple the posted limit, they'd take the car and haul your marshmallowman ass to the slammer... :)

    Dave:

It should be, but we have the 11-99 foundation here. Effectively, its a get out of jail card in California. When they were going that fast, they did get a ticket, but it was for a reduced speed, say 99 mph, which, if you don't have any tickets can be paid, and jail isn't an option. If they write you for over 100, they can take the car, and jail you. I forget the vehicle code section, but it is a misdeamor, not an infraction, and they can lock you up for up to 6 months, and if you get a ticket for over 120, you'll spend more than one week in jail. A doctor friend of mine, got tagged at 140+, ended up in Kern County jail for about 8 weekend, providing health services to the inmates.

I will wait for Art's take on this, but

When I got my 85 in a 25, he wrote it up as CPC 22350, which is basic speed violation, thus qualyfing me for traffic school. According to two cop friends of mine, he should have written it as reckless driving. Alas, he didnt, and I still have a clean record.

LOL, here in Lousiana anything over 25MPH above the limit can mean automatic jail time. Unless of course you are participating in the French Quarter Classic and have a POLICE escort of 120+MPH!!! But you and Matt Lamotte knew that already didn't you Carbon?!? ;)

it must depend a lot on where you are located. i got busted for 95 in a 35 and i just got a speeding ticket and thats it. a large one, but it couldve been a lot worse. im in Wyoming(middleofnowhere) and in the town i live in theres an unused road that was paved for logging trucks, but they stopped using it years ago.so now whats left is a large flat unused road with good visibility... and with no dragstip or track around this is where people go to "test" their car, either with a performance meter like G-tech or drag racing other cars. there has never been a wreck or injury of any kind, but im not defending the practice of street racing. anyway, the speed limit of this road is 35, didnt know that as there is just one sign on the whole road .. go figure. i was out in my car after rejetting the carb and had it up to about 120(made two runs)... well.. the second time going through the gears then slowing down i got flashed by the red and blue... evidently one of the customers at the shop where i had been at working on my car called the police after picking up her husband's BMW because she heard me talking to my friend that i was headed out that way to see how it ran.... would make a couple hot passes then pull the spark plugs to check how the fuel mixture was sitting. still have the car, wasnt confiscated but since then ive never had it above 80.... im too paranoid now. i know it was a stupid move and im sure ill get flamed for it but in my defense theres no childrens schools, shopping centers, homes or any type of human activity nearby. im sure in some places i would be in jail instead of getting a ticket

I talked my way out of a 85 in a 35 in my Lambo GTR one night. Thankfully the officer liked Lambos and knew exactly what the car is.

    If I ever find my 250 GTO or heaven forbid my F40, I'm in serious trouble. After work every day I hit 110-115 to wind down. I'd go faster but it's an '03 Grand am and I think it will explode! I rarely drive my '77 924 at all due to my inability to drive properly. I think speeding is a way for me to relieve tension. {A bad way I know.}

i know what you mean about speed, though... It really puts me in a different place...

i got pulled over in the summer last year, doing 93 in a 55... Cop let me go... i couldn't believe it.

Ok, just a litle story regarding the subject.
I don't know how much truth there is to this, but it is said around here that Jay Kay, the lead singer for the band Jamiroquai (and who owns a variety of supercars including a black/green Enzo) was also caught doing 300 km/h (+/- 186mph) on a 90 km/h ( +/- 56mph) area, AND, suposedly, for that he was forbiden to drive in ENGLAND for the rest of his life...
So what does he do? He buys a castle in Scotland, takes all his cars over there and just pushes the hell out of them all!! :9

BEar in mind this a rumour. Kind of a "urban myth"... Don't know if there's any truth to it... Maybe some of the Fchaters from UK can shed some light on it...

I remember when that happened. My favorite part of the article:

"Local officials said that Montoya was facing a two-month suspension from driving in France, but that would not affect his participation in the French Grand Prix. "

That guy deserves to go to jail for a few months and have a few years of probation, which is probably about the most they can get him for. Driving any fast car intoxicated is a bad idea because its too tempting to speed. If this guy was going exactly 55 and not drivnig erratically, i would have some more sympathy for him. People who drive recklessly and/or speed when they have been drinking are stupid. I would bet that 90% of drunk driving accidents occur because the drunk driver is driving like an idiot.

IIRC Juan finished second in the French Grand Prix last summer. I guess he was just warming up. Didn't that happen to Jean Alesi a while back. I think he was in a Mercedes and of course the police let him off with a stiff fine but he was allowed to keep the car although... his mother had to drive from then on!
