Car looks as if it's just been pulled out of the showroom...the finest e30 M3 i've ever come across, and i've seen several show quality M3s.

    30,006 miles
completely stock(except for org. driver seat cover that was installed from new)

he currently has it on ebay, here's a link...

The original, and still the best. Very few cars provide as involving a driving experience as an e30 M3.

guardsred, he's asking $25k...i've heard many bmw specialist/engine builders/CCA guys/etc. say that he should ask atleast $28k for the car.

He's in a position now that he wants to sell it...as he doesnt have a room(literally and financially) to keep it around.

If you have any questions about the car, just post I can answer as much as I know...but for detailed questions just email him.

E30 M3 is one of my favorites.
Looks like a well kept car.
I hope he gets a good price for it.
Did you post the sale on bimmerfest.com and bimmer.roadfly.org
There might be someone looking for an M3 there

Please don't take offense to this but maybe your buddy thinks some uninformed Ferrari person with wads of cash will pay 28K for that car.

28K for a car that is 15 years old and retailed NEW at 35K isn't worth anywhere near 30K.

Before you assume I know nothing about M cars, I have owned three of them including 2 E30 M3's and currently own a 1988 E28 M5 (now a race car). The best E28 M5's (ones with less than 50,000 miles) and in mint shape are changing hands for 18-20K and this is a car that retailed NEW at 46K and is a thousand times rarer than a E30. Only 1200 of these cars were built and half of them are now in junk yards.

You buddies car is a very nice low mileage example but it's value is closer to 18-20K at most not 28K.

That car will be for sale for years if he doesn't lower it closer to 20K.

    Hey Jon,
Well he is asking a lot for the car, but he's had several long time CCA members that would gladfully give him $20k for the car, but he wouldn't budge.

Anyway, concerning the rarity between your e28 M5 and the e30 M3....first of all, the e30 M3 is the most winningest BMW of all time(something, I dont believe the M5 can be acclaimed for), second of all, for example, there were less than 2,000 non-M coupes produced in the US...this doesn't mean they're holding their value any better than a similar non-M Z3 roadster.

Jon, regardless of what you think, cars can appreciate to more than their original msrp.

Here's a nice one for reference...

I'm not trying to take advantage of a wealthy Ferrari owner, despite what you may think, just getting some exposure to this super clean example of a race icon, to some of the enthusiasts on this forum.

Sorry to go a bit off topic (well the car in discussion is a BMW, so what the hell)

    THAT is chris bangle? ROTF!!!!
Holy crap, what possesed Helmut (?) to hire that guy, hes a freaking lunatic and he cant differenciate between a car that is "interesting" to look at, and one that is good looking.
God, I just about puked when I first saw the new 5.

About the E30 M5 in the discussion, 25k is a bit steep, but these cars will run as far as your wallet, they are very well mde. The M/// cars are a hoot, especially the M5. Id love to own one.

sorry if i misspelled anything, its almost 1am down here and i am very groggy.

You still trying to peddle that thing?? At the price you're asking, that car will still be sale a year from now..

The whole reason the E30 M3 was produced for the public was because under Group C racing rules, 5,000 production cars were needed to be built to qualify to race,,, Of course it would have a more extensive racing history than an E28 M5...

    rated///M,

While 20K is reasonable, 28-30K isn't. That's not to say that some fanatic out there who sold his won't step up and offer more but the current market for a low mileage E30 M3 is 15-18K.

As for the other example you gave, again asking price is irrevlant. I could have asked 100K for my 355 Challenge but that doesn't mean it's worth that amount.

Even with the low mileage on that E30 45K is nuts and off the chart. Bubble wrap of no bubble wrap it ain't gonna sell.

As for the winningest BMW that bears about as much relevance to the price of a E30 M3 as saying my old 911 Carrera 3.2 is special because the Porsche 911 is the winningest endurance car at LeMans and in IMSA.

The M coupe deserves no special mention at all. It's a mass produced M car that no longer has any special meaning. In fact M has no special meaning anymore. Nearly every model except the 7 series has an M variant. Cars that are not even M cars use the M5 motor Z8. They are no longer hand built at a seperate porduction facility and their engines share nothing with the race derived units that won hundreds of races in Europe of the past 25 years.

The motor in the M5 has just as much history as the M3 if not more. The M5 unit in the E28 and E34 is the original BMW Motorsport unit developed by Paul Rosche that powered BMW's to wins in the 70's in touring cars and helped them win many F2 races. It powered the M1 street car and the awesome M1 Procars. Part of the technology from that car went into designing the BMW F1 Turbo engine that made over 1400 hp in qualifying trim. Please don't compare a handbuilt M5 with a M coupe.

There were special edition M Motorsport E30's built in Europe and the UK that certainly command very high prices. I am referring to the various EVO models, including the EVO III and the special Cecotto models sold overseas. Those are worth the extra money.

But your car is just a run of the mill E30 M3 that happend to be in great condition and has low mileage. Certainly it deserves a premium over the current market price range of 8-12K but not 30K nor 45k for the other one. The car only sold new for mid-30's.

Also keep in mind that if you really wanted the winningest E30 variant you could buy a true DTM race car or Group N E30 like the DTM car that BMWCCA member Ron Checca has. It's a real 2.5 Group A Spec E30.

it's certainly a nice car but I have seen plenty of sub 50,000 mile cars sell around 17-19K in the past three years.

Your car (or the one being sold) is no different.

    Regards,

    Jon

Don't believe I ever stated he was asking $28k for the car, but besides that...

Sorry to offend you about the M coupe/non-M coupe example...wasn't trying to compare your car to to a M coupe...dont get the wrong impression.

Anyway, $45k for the e30 in a bubble is outrageous...but was just throwing it out for reference.

About what you said about BMW Motorsport...I can understand your point, but 'M' still has a place among the finest of sports cars. As far as the letter being overused...it's not AMG, BMW doesn't offer a bix box(i.e. G wagen) loaded with a sports car motor and slap a 'M' on it...and the fact that they've brought back yet another magical group of letters, CSL, on a model that clearly deserves them, is proof that BMW's Motorsport gmbh still remains very much like the original in house tuner that they originally were.

Are the newest offerings from 'M' completely hand assembled...no, obviously this was over when the e34 came to be, this doesn't make them any less of a car to me.

I'm through with this, the car is a stunning machine...and Jon doesn't tend to agree with me on this, but several, several other CCA old timers, among other educated BMW nuts have thrown numbers like $27k-28k out when speaking about it. It's one you do need to see in flesh to understand.
