    all,

i have my 79 308 gts in my garage and have been debating what size tire to get for the car..

    - the tires on the car now: goodyear P215/60 r14 eagle gt2..24" diameter..8.5" width

they look too small in diameter..too much space in the wheel well

i have ordered the sumitomo p205/70 hr14 which seems to be a very good all around tire...they have a 25.5" diameter and 8.2" width

is there a larger diameter tire or should this sufficietly fill the gap???

Try BFG 245-60-14 and they do a good job filling the WW. You won't get rid of the gap unless you lower the chassis. I think there was a thread that did this .

Buy a set of 16" wheels, then you can put on tyres more appropriate for the car.

225X50-16 on the front, and 245X45-16 on the rear.

I'm running 205X55-16 front, and 225X50-16 rear. They fill the wells and I have had no problems.

I am Getting ready to get new tires for my car soon, I have a question, why the 245/50-16 rears, and don't the 225/50-16 fronts rub the fender liners?

they fit perfect---the 245/50 is correct for keeping the right speedo reading---HOWEVER--got to tirerack and look up the overall tire diameter they will differ between manufacturers---all 245's are not the same.

I am running Bridgestone re 730 tires and love them--so far

the only thinng i had to do was to pull a small wire from the frame on the rears, drill a small hole in the fiberglass well near the front side of the shock and pull it about 1 inch to prevent any rubbing during heavy cornering

will post pics in a sec

For 16" QV wheels, I think that 245/45 is a proper replacement as far as diameter. The 245/50's would be taller. See the spreadsheet below.

By the way, if anyone wants this Excel spreadsheet to do their own calculations, I'd be glad to email you the file.

Mike--the actual size of a 245/45 will very a LOT between manufacturers--you will need to go to tirerack and look at the overall diameters or to the tire manufacturer website for the info
I have a large spreadsheet that I put together before selecting tires to be sure of the correct size

Also it is not advised to use different tire walls since they will flex differently, a 45 is a lot stiffer and quicker reacting than a 50 --this will alter the handeling of the car a lot-now, some people do take this into consideration in setting up their cars and select tires to give a partiular oversteer or understeer characteristic
