288 GTO or F40?
Parts availability and car availability make the F-40 a Ferrari DRIVER's car, the 288GTO's rarity make it a Ferrari DISPLAY/Collector car. Both, sadly, don't seem to be driven much by their owners. I'm sure there are exceptions, but.....
i love the 288, but for me if i am spending on a ferrari "supercar" then the F40 has always been the hands down winner in my book. one look at a F40 and you know that the car means buisness.
I tipped the scales in the F40's favor. It is my all time favorite car, always will be. If only I could slip behind the wheel for a few hours; I would have lived a very good life.
I voted for the 288, but this is a bit of an odd question, the cars are so close and related. F40s definitely get driven more.
288 for sure. The F40 is a much better performer in all aspects, and probably a better drive, but the 288 is and will remain the ultimate viscerally impactful Ferrari. In real life, sitting next to a perfect 308, the GTO made it look like a damn Pinto.
This is a real tough one. When I owned both at the same time. I always said the F40 was my favorite! I sold the F40. Now (since I don't have one) I say I like the GTO more. I just don't know. These Questions are getting to hard!
i don't have anything against the GTO at all, it's a great car, but i'd hate to wreck it. well i'd hate to wreck either car, but at least with the f40 the availability of parts is great. i'm not too sure about the handling characteristics of the GTO but from what i read the f40 seems to be more fun to drive.
Very good question and I don't think there's a clear winner because they have very different personalities. In my own opinion, I had to go with the 288 GTO. It's a supercar that could be driven quite conservatively if desired, and then on a moment's notice transform itself into a rocket. The F40 is just a rocket all the time. There's no "on-off" switch, it's always ON. And not that that's a bad thing. It's just that the GTO's split personality is more appealing to me. Oh and I find the lines on the GTO more aesthetically pleasing too. Pininfarina just went way overboard with all those louvers and vents on the F40 to help it breath better. The GTO, to me, seems just right...
I had the fortunate opportunity to 'live' with an F40 for several years putting 5-6K miles on it. It was hugely impressive...unbelievably fast....montrous grip...the absolute best driver's car that I have driven (except for my old 87 March Indycar....but that's another story!) The only car that I ever regretted going away.... Ciao....Dino I think this pic says it all......."Oh what a feeling.......F40!"
The F40 can be driven just as 'conservatively' as the 288 GTO, it isn't "always ON''. Although, I do agree with everything else you say.
Which one I like better? I love both the same!! The 288 GTO is more rare but the F40 is more of a racing car. hard question...
