Time for a clutch

I have a '79 308, It's time for a clutch. The car is a driver, driven hard but not a track car. What kinds of clutches are available for 308's? What is the stock clutch brand / design? What should I look for in selecting an uprated clutch? Who has the best deal? GT Car Parts, Rutlands or ??? Yea, I'm going to change the crank seal, flywheel bolts, pilot bearing, throwout bearing and anything else that is required or suspect.

If you search the archives, there's a lot of info on this. I know because I was exactly where you are a few months ago! (Mine ended up being a bit of a nightmare....needed a new flywheel and some other **** was discovered. Cost a fortune.) Good luck!

In general, clutch kits are about $350. (Check the site sonsers). If you do it yourself you will need a couple of special tools. If you need a flywheel, get ready for some sticker shock.

Saw a flywheel on Ebay for $1000 from G Evans, starting bid.

So $888 from UK is indeed ... a nice day.

Don't people make their racing flywheel for less?

Hi,
I replaced my clutch this past summer and it wasn't too bad. I figured a 308 would be a good "first clutch job"!

I bought my parts from AW Imports in NJ and the total with all the bearings, o-rings, shipping, etc was about $500. I didn't replace the flywheel bolts, or the main seal.

The ring nut tool is a must. Also, replace that ring nut (lower transfer gear) when doing this job. I didn't and I 'm about to pull it apart again to replace just that nut. The nut costs about $20 from the owner's site.
A little lok-tite was recommended also for this nut.
