F1 or 6-speed?
For racing I would choose F1. For Sunday driving I would choose a manual. I voted F1 because I don't drive my cars, I beat them up.
I'd rather have the 6 spd, but it's basically impossible to get a new Modena with anything with F1 now. May be a repercussion of the assembly line mods to allow CS production, but Ferrari has pretty much ended production of 6 spd coupes. Gary
kizdan, please don't just start a bunch of new polls... search first... re-starting a poll just results in invalid results for both... because you don't know if people voted in just one (so they can be added) or both (so they can't be added)!! F-chatters, don't answer here... if you have an opinion, please answer in the original poll on this... so that the results are meaningful... http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5064 Throughout that poll, to date, the results have been very close to 40% for F1 and 60% for 6-speed. 6 speed! when buying or driving a sporting car i want there to be a certain mechanical feel that i can only get by banging through the gears myself. a F1 tranny makes any SOB a pro. but if one can perfectly execute a upshift and downshift in a ferrari with a 6speed (especially in a older ferrari) my hats off to them. i have read that the manual tranny will soon go the way of the dinosaurs. if that is so then i will have to always be driving a out of date 5 or 6 speed ferrari. computers should not do all the thinking people.
I thought the 6-speed was the end-all until I drove an F-1. Now, I own one and enjoy it very much. My wife also has mastered it and we both drive the car (together only). Ken.
The major advantage in the manual is that when something goes out of kilter, at least you have a chance of driving home with the manual. With a manual, if you are having a clutch slave cylinder issue, a driver can push in the pedal several times to release the clutch, the computer will not catch on that the slave is dieing, nor will it shift without using the clutch as one can do with a manual. Grundgy--sure--but you get home.
Interesting results so far. 2 1/2 to one F chat preference for the 6speed vs ( I believe) 4 to 1 preference for F1 by people who actually buy the car.
I'd take either one in my 328! Five years now and I'm still trying to shift to 6th when cruising on the highway... but it still aint there.
No Gary, when you ordered your 360 (up until recently), you always had a choice of transmissions. most were ordered with F1's.
