another good reason to park a expensive high profile car in a locked , alarmed garage.... or dont have it at all. interesting reading. i bet body shop guys of some kind are involved, not the ones in the article but it sure seems to make thier business better !

    All that fuss over lights?

There's something I just don't understand... I can go into WalMart and buy an HID yard light for around $50-100 or so. A true, gas xenon HID light with an internal ballast!

Automotive HID markup is off into the stratosphere! $1,400+ just so you can see better at night? I figure theives might go after Caddy's infrared night driving system cameras over some light bulbs.

If there is somebody in the "know" about this, enlighten me.

I don't think any Ferrari owners have to worry.

There are plenty of cars out there to take lights out of.

I have seen and heard of Nissan Maxima's as a prime target.
    Also BMW X5's.

I feel sorry for the owners when they drive by me without any headlight housing whatsoever.

First it was car stereos. Then it was airbags. Now it's HID headlights. I wonder what the next "target" will be?

At least we live in a country where people are free enough to steal. In some countries behaviors like this aren't tolerated, we should all be thankful.

I don't understand how they do this so quickly. When I swapped out the headlights on my M5 it took a professional mechanic about 10 minutes per side to get thenm out. I would think you would have to break all the mounting points to steal them.

i may be wrong guys but i believe the cost is the pcar housing which is both missing and the remaining structure that is damaged, this makes installing the new parts in harder as repairs have to be done. if any paint work is involved then even more $$$ color matching. and as stated above the lights can be purchased , but these are not the kind of people who " buy" things when they want it. its on the street so take it. next it will be lug nuts (joke)

What is really silly, is these HID lights have come WAY down in price. You can by a Sylvania HID light kit for between $300 and $400 these days. http://www.suvlights.com/

In the mean time, these guys stealing headlights should have their balls ripped off with a plastic fork!
