The foam pad that is glued under front hood, forward part, that contacts the radiator on my 81 308 has disintegrated. I contacted the local dealer to get a replacement and was informed that this 4 ft approx. piece of foam rubber or whatever it's made of, was $120.00! Can someone help me with a substitute that is not such a rip off? Any help would be appreciated, Thank"s.

Amazing, huh? Go to Home Depot for the foam. That's where the dealers get it. Then calculate the mark-up!

owners.ferrari.com shows the part as 32 GBP or about $56.00. Sounds like your dealer is trying to hose you. I've gotten good service from them.

Call Algar Parts 610-527-1100, they might be more reasonable. Part #40150104

    Flashman,

I have an 81. Foam replaced a year or two ago.....

Do you need dimensions from mine???

Yes...go to Home Depot or a foam supply store and get a closed cell foam. All that foam is doing is blocking some air flow.

P.S. - Can you believe that Ferrari of Scottsdale wanted $120.00 for this!

    Flashman,

The dimensions are: 1 1/8" thick, 28" long and 2 1/2" wide. This is for the piece right above the radiator. There is a second foam piece that sits right above the front lip of the spare tire well..kind of a lazy "U" shaped...do you need dimensions on that one too?

I replaced the foam under the engine lid on my 348, is it the same on your 308? I used a 1/4 - 1/2 " thick foam with a silver sheeting on one of its sides. I have leftovers if you want it?

The foam in my car is just a strip. Thank you for the offer, I'm going to pick it up at Home Depot.

    William,

The foam strip over the radiator decomposes due to the heat. The more you drive, the quicker it will happen. Think of this as routine maintenance. Use 3M adhesive to install your new foam strip. Home Depot should have the same type of foam you need to match your existing intact foam. It's just a few dollars.

I wanted to thank everyone that replied to my question about the foam pad. I just returned from Home Depot, and the pad I picked up, is made of the same material as the origional. I only paid $2.89 for it. Scottsdale Ferrari wanted $120.00! Can you believe it! No wonder no one wants to do after sale business with them. Again, thank's for all your help, and if there is anything in my experience with 308's that I can pass on to help anyone, please let me know.

    WilliamR,

Would you be able to post a photo of both pieces of foam? Mine was taken off long ago and I do not have an original piece to reference.

    Thank You,

Anyone know if the 328 has the same foam as the 308 QV ? I don't have any foam at all on mine, and I don't recall ever seeing any on another 328.

I went to Home Depot to replace mine. Get the grey strips of foam that they sell to fit around a window unit a/c. Buy a razor blade and the appropriate 3M adhesive and your set. Mine still looks brand new two years later. I think I spent $6 for everything.

I just used Weldwood Contact Cement, it worked fine. You can also clean it up with mineral spirits which does not harm the paint on the hood if you make a mistake.

If you would rather use the 3M adhesive, then look for 3M's Trim Adhesive which comes in a spray can It's good for all rubber trim. I've even used it to resecure the ends of my carpet trim on the underside of the rear deck lid.

I just used a double-sided carpet tape for my foam strip. The pressure against the radiator has kept it tight and it's never loosened or fallen down when the hood has been up.

    Barry,
I just received a message from Peajay regarding his 328. Do you know if they used the same type of foam pad as the 308's? If so, I going to send him one. He lives in Paris and I do not think Home Depot has expanded that far.
    Regards,

    William,

I noticed peajay's inquiry. I'm not that familiar with the 328's specifications. The 328's hood louvers produce a different airflow patten under the bonnet than our early 308s. I'm not sure if 328s have or need this foam strip. What it does for our 308s is keep hot air passing through the radiator from getting into our fresh air ventilating system.

    Barry
