Interesting idea and definitely necessary, but a lot of current 360 owners are going to be crying over this one -- if correct, this will drive prices on regular 360s into the basement...

why would 360 owners be crying? 20 more hp and some cosmetic changes? not even worth "upgrading", imo...

I guess we've know this was coming... however we thought it was going to be the 420. Interesting how Ferrari extends the life of their vehicles through numerical upgrades and engine boring:

    206 - 246
    308 - 328
348 - 355 (and removal of the cheese graters)
    550 - 575
    360 - 400

On the contrary - looks are almost identical and minor technical changes will increase HP only very slightly. I dont think this will affect current 360's very much. Maybe the Monza (next model) might.

I saw this story awhile back, and I think it is pure speculation. Sooner or later, the 360 will be replaced. People just speculate on how, when, and where it will happen.

Unless they have drastically altered the powerband shape, that extra 0.4L has to make more than 20 hp.

Maybe they are shooting for more low end with the larger engine (i.e. not much peak power gain, but average power across the band is improved)?

This picture has been around for over 6 months to a year guys, nothing to worry about...Id say that if anything, maybe they are testing a dual xenon headlamp out for the new one. Possibly an aborted project, as an initial upgrade, I believe was dropped, as a whole new model was to be conceived, but ferrari is incredible at keeping stuff secret, I wouldn't count on seeing much of anything before they want us to;)

Yea, what he said. why buy a new one when the old one looks the same and just costs more, and they still look the same.

If it was a radical new cool design I would agree with rodsky.

I think it was just a drive test of a 360 Modena, not a new model.

In a past thread, someone in contact with a man at FIAT said that there won't be an "intermediate" 360, but directly the real new car in 2005 or 2006.

It's true that I never heard anything about that recently. And there is no real spyshot of this evolution.

It waters down the market and drives the price of a standard 360 down even further. Think about it -- there would (if this "400" is to be produced) be two models of the Modena more desired than the 360 (ie CS and 400). So the regular 360 will sell for even less.

Even if the differences in performance between a 360 and 400 are minimal, it will still be desired over the 360 and will command a higher price. Because arguing price/performance in respect to Ferrari is not a winning bet, I'll leave that one where it stands.

All I'm getting at is that the current 360 would retain much better value in the market if Ferrari would forget about the "400 Modena" and move along to an entirely new car, the "420 Monza" as everyone is suggesting.

I, for one, won't be "crying" over it. So it's going to be a "upgraded" car. Big deal. Didn't buy the car to worry about resale anyway.

I think you fellas are reading me wrong -- I for one love the 360. I just think Ferrari is making a bad sales move. I can see why they're doing it, I just don't think it's the correct way to go about things.

I heard that the new car will come out in 05, its a 420, but NOT the Mauser motor, since the Ferrari is alloy block, not iron, but similar with maybe chains instead of belts. Additionally, the power will be about 500HP, and many of the Enzo design features will be apparent.

What enzo design features could realistically be carried over that haven't already? a revert back to 4 valve heads? Other than this, the enzo is so unique and expensive to build...Cant be the whole pushrod suspension can it?

The 355 was the only car with the 5 valve heads. The four valve heads are what's in the 360 already.

EDIT: BTW, my dealer told me exactly what Art posted, except that the new model will be launched in Europe for probably 6 months before it gets here, so it will probably get here in late '05 or right at '06.

Yeah..I think this is what will happen.
When you said it will have many of the Enzo design....Do you know what exactly? rear Enzo lights, Enzo nose, etc?

Oops. You're absolutely correct. For some reason, I thought that Ferrari went back to the 4 valve design on the 360. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.

4 valves are allegedly more beneficial on 4+ liter cars. Thats what ive heard. Anyhow, I would think that Ferrari would want a more traditionally good looking car for the staple V8 instead of a more controversial design, like the enzo, sure, it grows on you, but thats NOT what they need in the big seller! stick to a modification of the 360...like the stradale;)
