Dude...you need to put a big, non-color-matching spoiler on the front....and a HUGE fiberglass rear wing on it. Don't you know anything? It wouldn't hurt to put funny taillights on it either. Finally, add STP to the oil.
Well, for the record, around town and in the city I drive exactly at the speed limit and people pass me all day. I don't really care about that. When I get a little bit of an open stretch of highway, though, I find it hard to resist pushing the go pedal and hearing the engine wail, even if it's only for a few seconds. I don't think that this is cool or correct but it's something that I find myself doing in the F-car. I just wanted to see if this was a "normal" phenomenon with other owners or not. Okay, I am getting a Valentine. Is it easy to hardwire into a 355?
Should I get 20 inch wheels instead of my 13 inch? Thanks! I already got mad front spoiler 'yo but my moms and pops aint been representing with a drill so I can put it in my hood. That's wack tho yo. Thx for the propa's! Ok, I think I'm going to get sick.
Dude, no it won't wear offfffff. It only gets worse. You will spend alot this year on tickets. Good luck and have fun.
My name is David and I also have a problem with speeding. The thrill and urge NEVER wears off, but you will find yourself beaten into some sort of submission when your license is only a couple points from being suspended and you've already spent thousands on lawyers, speeding tickets and insurance increases. GET A V1!!!
License, gone so many times. Just when you get it, it gets suspended again. Spent thousands in tickets and on lawyers. Been to the track many times. Bought a GSXR for track only. I can't help it. But afterawhile you get smarter ( among the stupid ) and stop the dangerous stuff and only speed when it's safe ( spare me what you old farths find safe ) I now try not to speed when there are other cars around or when the visibility is not clear. But when it's clear and if I see no pigs around ( and they do hide behind trees and signs in GA ) I'll allways give it go.
This is good to know because I have a big problem with this also. Around town I drive at the limit - religiously. But as soon as I hit highways or B-roads (country roads), I am doing anywhere from 100 - 150 or more. I just can't help it. Its not good and I know its not good, but how do you resist? The only time I can resist, honestly, is while the engine is still warming up. So I now keep the car locked up and the keys in a safe to make it harder to get into it. And I have a town car that will only do very slow speeds. I use this whenever possible, but the urge must be satisfied. This is an addiction unlike any other I have known. In fact, just writing about it has me thinking that I should go out for a blast now!! And its getting late here (but roads are empty - good time!) Hmm....
Around town...the speed limit. But, its 1,000 miles to the nearest big city and most of that is on un-patrolled roads with very little to slow you down...except the bufallo (and forzen chips) on the road. Usual time is 16 hours for that 1,000 miles (even in the winter) but a couple of times I've done it in 13 1/2. By the way, that's in a 20 year old Mercedes diesel. Not the fastest but they do cruise all day at 85-100 requiring only one fuel stop for that distance.
Nope, it will not wear off. When we had the 348ts I would speed all the time. I think I went over 100 mph every day..on some stretches I would run between 140 mph and 170 mph. Yeah, buy a V1...buy it NOW!!
There was a thread awhile back on the speeding issue and most responses said they drove 10 to 20 mph over the speed limit.
Dude, did the Seattle-SanFrancisco in 12 hours 15 years ago in a 88 BMW M3. So sweat, was not even driving fast, that is just 67MPH. The car was so rare back then (still is now) that even the cops gave a thumbs-up sign. I-90 bridge, you sure you got up to 197? I-90 bridge is only a mile long or something like that.
I remember one time years ago driving the TR down the interstate and passing a cop car parked off the road with the gumballs flashing. My initial thought was feeling sorry for the guy who got pulled over and to laugh at the cop. I looked down at my own speedo to see I was doing 95 at the time. By owning a F-car, you're subject to the two most asked questions from others, namely how much did it cost, and how fast have you had it going down the road. I realize 95 is not too fast for a car that tops out at 181, but that's how I do answer the second question anymore. I tell people that old age creeps up on you and you tire of the hassle of dealing with traffic tickets, the police, and everything else that goes along with messing with the system. As the years go by I also tire of people I know die in traffic accidents, or worse, who'll spend the rest of their life in agonizing pain from traffic-related injuries. These people are commonly referred to as 'the other guy'. One can choose to literally live life in the fast lane if they desire. Just remember there's no margin for error here--a single screw-up or miscue for any reason and you're painting a red centerline down the middle of the road... Time to take some Geritol and head to bed...
2 quick points A)there is absolutely nothing morally wrong with driving fast B)No one with a brain does it in a populated or residential area That said I took this from a fellow 928'r i know who said it as good as it can be said; "t seems like people look at speeding as something you do once, furtively, and then shut it down, and thank your lucky stars you did not crash. Or that the 928 should only be "used" to it's full potential on a racetrack. Which is excessive paranoia about the ability of our cars. The 928 was built to be able to cruise all the way across Texas, Montana, flat farm country, or the deserts of Arizona, at those speeds, and have no serious risk, or problems... Yes, accidents happen. Yes, cars can be deadly. But we have chosen to drive a car capable of extreme speeds. If you buy any exotic car, it was meant to be driven fast. The 928 was meant to be driven fast over long distances... On the highway. On the autobahn... They weren't built for the racetrack. If you feel the need to install a full cage, fire system, fuel cel, and all that stuff, that's fine. But if it is all in the name of safety, you might as well be driving a Volvo. Fast cars *are* inherently dangerous, and most of us know that, and accept that risk. If someone is unwilling to accept that risk, then they should stick to a Volvo on the street, and a 928 with a full cage on the racetrack. But most of us drive these cars on the street 95% of the time. And we have purchased a car that was meant to be driven fast, and built to handle it... I see no problem with speeding responsibly. I picked a car that is well-suited for that purpose. There is a balance between safety, and restricting your speed excessively.
That sounds, pretty, but what about the others you coud hit in an error. All you say there is about your own safety, but you are not alone in the road. I do not care if you kill yourself speeding, but I care if you hit me while you were speeding because you made the wrong choice. I do not think any of us owning a Ferrari can say for real that they never exceed the speed limit. But there are people who doese it when the risks are low, and there are other who does it when they think the risks are low. Which it is not the same. This last group unffortunatelly is the most comon one among those who have an accident while speeding, and give the rest a bad name. You have to remember that the limit to your liberty is when you interfere with the liberty of others. Just my opinion. - Julio.
Ooop's I fogot something else, driving 800 miles in 12 hours with 2 stops just for a pee, and being proud of it is just dumb, not only because of the speeding, but because after the first 4 hours you where probably speeding and with your reflexes diminish, and by the end probably falling sleep. That kind of actitud is just the wrong one. And I know this is going to start a flame war at me!!!! But I had to say it. - Julio.
Stepping in....if the roads are open and free of traffic it is no big deal as long as you are responsible. If you think that is dumb, then you would really hate me. Having driven from Texas to Indiana (1,200 miles) in just 14 hours 30 minutes I can say that it was not a problem. Really fast in open spaces (i.e. no cars in sight), and slower in more congested areas. I do not require very many stops for restroom breaks, and I was wide awake the whole time. When I got home to Indiana I was still awake for hours afterwards. Some peoples bodies operate differently than yours, that does not make them stupid. (*Oh, and I have done several trips over 1,000 miles in under 15 hours.)
I speed all of the time. Not always super fast, just 15 faster kph in the city and 20 kph on the highway. It keeps me sharp because I scan for cops and people crossing the road ahead and other cars changing lanes not knowing I comming up on them a little quicker. I do however drive too fast far too often. If I hit someone I will pay the fines and hopefully no major damage is done. If I kill someone...there may be two deaths that day.
Yours didn't sound pretty Julio just stupid. That is called for because you ignored point B. I drive backroads alone and also with like-minded exotic drivers. Get IT. Back phuckin country roads without houses, businesses etc. Unless your a squirrel julio i am not going to hit you. That post of yours was just dumb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T
im not gonna start a flame war. i will simply state my case. on average i only sleep 4 hours a night. i run 5 miles a day and spend a hour in the gym everyday on top of working 8 hours a day. im just one of those people who do not sleep very much. now on my 800 mile trips i left at 5 in the morning and arrived at a little past 5pm. so it was all daylight driving. would i attempt this at night? no! my route took me over mountain passes and areas where a flat or engine trouble would land me in a heep of trouble at night. and to be honest, YES i am proud of my good time. happy driving.
these bikes will hit top speed in a little over a mile if you are not afraid to get on it hard at the start. when i did 197 via GPS it was heading from seattle to mercer island and i began hitting it hard at the start of the tunnel and by the time i was heading down onto the bridge deck i was already at 180mph i needed almost the rest of the bridge to get that extra 17mph. then it just ran out of guts and i backed off and slowed going into the tunnel on mercer island. i installed race cams and that gave me the extra 15hp required to exceed 200mph. i may also have to gear down a tooth on the rear sprocket. we shall see.
Wow. I used to ride on public roads with a guy who had a busa; he'd regularly go about 190. Once I started going to the track I figured the tickets and animals/gravel/sand/tractors were too much to deal with, so now I just putt around. But who knows, maybe next summer I'll get bored and decide to 'rip it up'. Man, there are some great roads in Wisconsin.
This just shows that some of you guys don't really think you have a problem speeding, you are proud of it. @jbrosseau, If you search the net for 'Drowsy driver' you will find out that your description is pretty close, if not exact, to the profile defined in thosands of pages about the issue. For those who might be interested this is just one of those articlesEffects of Partial and Total Sleep Deprivation on Driving Performance @racerx - My post was not directly directed at you, it was a figurative way of writting it. As you might gussed by my profile, English is not my native language, obviously something got lost on translation. I am sorry if I might offended you. However I still disagree with some actitudes in this theread. Of course those are the ones that do not want to hear what I have to say. Even in the lonliest road, nobody can tell what they are going to find at the turn of the next corner. Many drivers who thought they were safe in country road at high speeds, had litteraly eaten with their cars, a bull, or a truck getting out a near field, or a bigger wild animal than a squirel such as a wild pork, or a deer, or in the sadest episodes a cyclist, a near villager etc... If there is a road is because it was built to be used, but not only for those who like to speed, and chances are that sombody else is. I also exceed the speed limits more often than you might think, but I am not proud of it, and certaily I do not go on public roads to the extremes that some display here. Acceidents happen even if you don exceed the limits, but the consecuences are certaily different. Anyway I am not here to lecture anyone, draw your own conclusions from what everybody posts here. And as I am obviously missunderstood the objetive of this thread, I only have left to whish you the best luck on your speeding. - Julio.
