I tried to find the specs of my laptop hdd, and then I tried to find a utility to measure the rpm. I thought I would see if anyone on here has any suggestions before I take the hdd out and look at it. Thanks

Paint a little dot on the platter edge and count how many times it goes around in a second.

Use the perfmon utility--you still have to back into it, but it can be done.

Alternatively, open up the laptop, get the hard disk details, and look it up on the manufacturer's website.

You might even be able to find out what kind of disk you have through device manager. But you might just be using a generic driver, not one specifically for your disk.
