I just came across this as Im finally cleaning out and moving some of my old stuff out of my parents house. It is a perfect, mint, uncirculated $100 bill. Does anyone know what it could be worth ( over the face value ).

Also, I came across a 1885 CC silver dollar (not graded) Excellent condition. Any Ideas?

    Thanks
    Mike

    HOLY SH_T...!!!

Uncirculated...? What does that mean...? That might actually adversely affect the value of it, if it means that it was never printed and is, for lack of a better word, a "prototype"... Cool stuff, nonetheless... Care to post pictures...?

i have a 1957 $1 "Silver Certificate" bill that i carry in my wallet... Someone gave it to me as change once, in a store and i've kept it ever since...

    LOL

NNO- it means it was never put in general population, It was never sent to a bank to be withdrawn, the Fed Res. sold it as a collectible, at least they do it now I dont know how it was obtained back in 1950.

If you would of bought $100 worth of IBM stock in 1962 it would be worth $3.8 mil today with dividends and splits.

If you would of bought $100 worth of Wal-Mart in 1972 it would be worth $1.06 mil today with dividends and splits.

If you would of bought $100 worth of Microsoft in 1986 it would be worth $31,000 today with dividends and splits.

Now if you would of bought $100 of IBM in 1962 and sold it to buy Wal-Mart n 1980 and sold it to buy Microsoft in 1986 considering a 30% capital gains tax it would be worth $1 billion today!

Is the Microsoft a typo? Are IBM and WAL-Mart that much better?

    Mike --

The '85 CC dollar is actually a pretty good find -- you'd need to be a bit more specific about what "excellent" means (any signs of wear? still shiny? any nicks, or what they call "bag marks"?).

But generally, it's probably worth between $200 (pretty well worn, not shiny, but still in good shape) and $1000 (near-mint, only the smallest signs of wear/bag marks/etc.). If it's in really really mint condition, it could be worth up to $10,000 ... but those are the really top-notch ones.

When I was 12 or 13, I used to get my hair cut by a very nice older Italian guy named Vincent. He knew I was a big coin collector as a kid, and one day I was sitting there in his little barber shop and he said "Hey, Noah, I want to show you something..." He pulled out an 1889-CC dollar, in just about the most beautiful condition I've ever seen a coin in (MS-65 at least).

That coin will get you a brand new 575M today....:D

PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is the industry standard, as far as I know. I've always used them, and I prefer to buy coins graded by them.

You can't submit directly to them, but you can go through an authorized dealer:

    http://www.pcgs.com/dealer/index.chtml

I think it's something like $30 to get it graded, and they should have it back to you in 2 weeks or so. They'll seal it in a special "slab" (see below) and give it a unique serial number which, for all intents and purposes, is like criogenically freezing the coin -- it'll preserve it for years and years.
