Anyone know where I can get 24055VR390 Michelin TRX Tires for my 82 Mondial? Coker has not been able to get them. Thanks Sam
Sam, try Tirerack.com. Call them they might be able to help you locate this size. They show they have 220/55/390 at $208/per tire, but not 240s.
Thanks all. Wrote to Trutlands. Saw those at Tire Rack. Right now I can get all I want from the UK at double the price. I'm still looking.
It is my understanding that Michelin still makes a batch of TRX tires now and then, but do not export them to the USA.
One of the best things I did for my '76 308GT4 was to get rid of the Michelin tires. Went to Pirelli P6000 205/70/R14 and what a difference. These tires have much stiffer sidewalls and harder rubber than the Michelins and the car now feels totally different: great road feel, very sure footed, more like a sports car, at times almost like a go-cart. Steering feels better, the ride is stiffer and cornering is more exciting with not as much lean as before. Four-wheel drifts are easy to get into and out of and they actually make noise (rubber/pavement skid noise) when they break loose. They even squeal a little when shifting to second gear in a straight line and without much effort. Very nice tires, and they look good. I don't know how they compare on larger size rims, but on my small 14" rims, the Pirellis are ideal.
Might seem like a dumb suggestion, but did you try the local Ferrari dealer? See if they have, or can get them? It's not always the most expensive route to take.
I have to stop at Algar tomorrow and pick up my seats (arrghh, to get re-upholstered). I'll ask the guys there if they have/know of a source for your hard to find tires.
recently got my TRX's from tirerack.com at $207 each. I'll go with 16" wheels next time. The lower profile looks better to me and you have a hell of a lot more tire choices for less money.
Coker gets them in in batches, if you can confirm a due date maybe they can hold you a set. i needed 220's and all they had at the time was 240s' so i took them put them on the backs and used the 2 best 220' had on the fronts. looks ok but i will have 16's next time.
Longstone Tyres in the U.K. would have the TRXs in the size you want. The price is about 15% higher than at Coker and shipping can be rather expensive, but they do keep an excellent supply of fresh Michelin Vintage tires in all sizes in stock. Ask for Dougal. http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/ Barry
Place in Watertown, NY area called Strictly British. Advertises periodically in the Ferrari Market Letter, and has a website. Has/had a number of wrecked Mondial cab's. May be a source for used rubber of that size.
