Only one yellow 288? Good, maybe someone will ball it up and then yellow can go back to being the color of taxicabs and schoolbuses which is where it belongs.

    Garrish.

Man, am I the only person who actually likes the 288? Even though I think red suits it more, its still beautiful.

No, the 288 is fantastic, and timeless. For sharing so much with the 308 it really does look like an entirely different car. The 308 died for me the minute the 288 arrived, you can't go back to a ribeye once you've tasted a filet.

But yellow is hideous on any sportscar period, curse Ferrari for starting that trend years ago before anyone else, even though there is an Italian symbolism for it (ask Ernesto he'll tell you all about it.)

What famous F1 driver said years ago in a bio that there are only three appropriate colors for a sportscar: Red, Black, or Silver. Does anyone know? Words to live by.

Yep WAY over priced - the GTO EVOs are worth alot, but this can't be worth more than 350K-400K USD.

bulls*it. yellow is my favorite. my red 360 gets a lot of attention, but when i drive my yellow one people go nuts...yelling, pumping their arms, honking, cheering (and i live in los angeles so people see a lot of really nice cars so i'm always amazed at all the enthusiasm a ferrari generates). i agree that red and silver and black are great colors on a sportscar, but red or yellow is a great choice on a ferrari. but i'm glad that not everybody chooses yellow. makes mine all the more special :)

    Exactly.

Yellow is the "hey I'm in a Ferrari which doesn't give me enough attention for my fragile ego, so I got it in yellow tooooo, look at meeeeee!"

    F that.

Red is barely tolerable on other sportscars if you're a man, but for a Ferrari it's of course religion. Plus no other red looks so good.

    Black/Silver = a man's choice.

Is this car really as it is claimed to be?

I just checked through Forza #17 (June '99), which is the GTO issue. According to a side-bar in the 288 GTO Buyer's Guide article, Marcel Massini is quoted that six pre-production prototypes were built:

    • 44421
    • 44725
    • 44727
    • 47647
    • 47711

Noticed how I only typed five? Knowing full well Forza has made many mistakes (like in this instance how they can't count!), are they wrong, or is QV500.com wrong (S/N listed in that QV500 link is 47649 and only four built according to the seller).

    ???

    ah yes, now i remember.

these wackos want $1.6M for this car.

GTOs are going in the 300s.

they basically want 5X the cost of a production GTO.

    maybe there's a museum that'll be interested.

    buona fortuna,
    doody.
