i have a small collection started, and I was wondering of there was a kind of a 'shoppping list' of cars for your collection.
    I have so far:
    246GTS Dino(HotWheels, 1:18, yellow)
    250 Testrossa (Burago, 1:18, red)
    250GTO (Burago, 1:18, red)
250 GT "Berlinette" (Universal Hobbies, 1:18, red)
    250LM (HotWheels, 1:18, red)
    275 GTB4 (HotWheels, 1:24, red)

    Wanted
    166MM
    250 carrera Panamerica
    250 GT or SWB
    125
    815
    625 TF
    375 America
    250 GT Europa
    410 Superamerica
    California Spyder
    250 GT Ellena
    250 California
    250 GT Lusso

Not a bad set sop far, I think, with no (blasphemy),and I plan on makint it all 1:18 scale in the end, but what am I missing?

    Tomo,
Unfortunately, there are thousands and thousands of diecast Ferraris and F1 cars out there. It is best to pick a subject, color, scale, or subset and try to collect those. I don't think anyone can say they have "all" of anything ("all" 1:18 Ferraris), because as soon as you do, you see another one. I have "all" of some very specific catagories, like all the Minichamps 1:43 F333SP's made (13 of them).

A lot of websites give complete listings of the models they have made. Some are personal, and some are the companys' own.

Ebay is another good site to research, even if you don't buy. You can see what was made. There are lots of "discussions" on quality, so there are many manufacturers at different levels and prices.

Say, start with 250 series, and do an Ebay search and see what is out there (probably Jouef mostly, but Mattel may release one). Try to compile a list, and then start a search for those. Or, search for Hot Wheels 1:18 and see what you don't have.

A lot of the ones you want may not have been made, so if you have a list, you don't spend time looking for something that doesn't exist.

There seems to be more in 1:43 scale, but if you want 1:18, stick to it.

Each to his own, but as a modeller scale to me is everything. That's why I decided early on to stick with what I had been collecting at that time, which happened to be 1/18. I'm not saying 1/18 is the best or anything, but since I've started in it, I'll stick with it. Even if that means I'm missing out a whole bunch of good cars.

Of course 1/43 is popular and 1/32 is growing as I realized once I got back into slot cars. Lots of good cars in that scale too.

I once thought, that I had cornered the 1/18 market, but as Mule said, there is always another one around the corner. And now that I found some pricey 1/18 models in the 200 - 400 $ range, I know that my collection has to grow very slowly. Maybe one of those a year or so.

For a long time I was struggling over whether I need the spider, berlinetta etc version of each model (e.g. 348 targa, spider, berlinetta) or not. I finally caved in. But now I realize there is even more to it: I found a targe (GTS) version of a 512 TR. So now I'm looking for a 512 TR spider. It never ends! And that's not even counting my own modifications to models (e.g. 348 Challenge).

in addition to what's been mentioned above, there are sites out there dedicated to diecast collecting and you may want to check into those....as mule said, ebay is a great source for info, and if you know what you are looking for and have priced it out beforehand, the occasional deal...i collect strictly 1/43 competition any era...if i see a car that i like i'll buy it (and there are way too many that i like) especially if i've been to a race where it competed..... right now i'm building a 1969 amon ferrari 612p can am car as raced at mid-ohio..

I too prefere the 1:18 scale cars. There are some rare ones out there that I just can't justify paying for....yet anyways. Here is a pic of most of my 1:18 diecast Ferraris....oh and the "big one" too.

My collection started from a Bburago 250TR and Testarossa 84', both in 1/18. 94 cars later, I still havent' scraped the surface of what my collection could be! I don't have enough time to list them all!!!

Sheesh, exactly the same here: Started with those two models back in the late eighties. By now I think I got something around 70 cars or so (haven't counted them for a while).

My proudest achievement: Sticking with buying the F1 cars since 93.

1/18 is the best to start with, pretty economical.

BUT, 1/43 allows you to get much more selection, ie., historic races, drivers etc.

I've also purchased many 1/24 scale, in between, to find certain models.
For awhile this was popular with Bburago, who had many selctions.

Will scan and post pics later.

    Have FUN!

When I bought the 1/1 scale, I knew it had gotten out of hand!

Once I discovered the one-offs in 1/18 I scratched 'economical' from the vocabulary.

Another great advantage of 1/43: You need less room. This is becoming a bit of an issue with my 1/18 cars. Running out of shelf space.

    Ah, got it.

Nobody here seems to have the 365 (the predecessor to the 512 BBi, not the Daytona)?

I'm still looking for that one. Exoticar claims to have it, but the picture I see in the catalog and the car I found at their shop was just another 512BBi with a different paint job.

I have brought this up before and somebody did confirm, that there is another model out there, which indeed is different from the 512 BBi

    Anybody, Buehler?

I'm going to a hobby shop tomorrow at lunch to check out their collection of 'old' 1/18 Ferraris. Last time I was there they had a Boxer, but I didn't check to see if it was a 512 or a 365. I'll look for you.

I remember the discussion and pictures on the differences in the 365 and 512 from Kyosho. I had put a picture up that showed the differences, but I think Tifosi said there were other changes not made on the model. I have a black and red of each, and they look different enought to me. Got all four at Exoticar.

Exoticar does still have the Kyosho 365 GT4/BB in stock. I saw quite a few that last time I visited the warehouse. I don't live to far from the main store in Avon, MA so I'm able to stop in periodically.

Wasn't Ingrid the code name for the Scaglietti and had never anything to do with a 456 or am I missing here something?
