So I watched a disturbing amount of Barret-Jackson the past 4 days, and saw what is a new trend to me: Muscle cars fetching absurd prices, and people backing down once a 355 hit $70k. I would have bought that $251k 550 Barchetta, the Daytona *and* the two $40k 365 GTC's if I was there*... those were steals too!

What do you guys think? Is a new Ferrari just too common? Is the 166 (that red spyder...) not worth $400k??

    *with the $$

I would buy any car that's a "steal". If not to drive it, then to sell it. But I think all Ferraris will hold their value longer and higher than other makes. Long Live Ferrari!

There was a guy on another thread who was there and said most of the ferraris present were a little "iffy" in terms of their condition. So who knows?

Arent American Muscle Cars kinda like a big underground thing in the UK or something.Hard to beat the sound of a Carbed Big Block with a chunky cam.Love it.

Do you own a muscle car Enzo? I wouldn't mind a big block '69 'vette or a nice Roadrunner other wise I'm not the largest of muscle car fans.

Actually, Ryan it is more of different strokes for different folks. Last year, I attended the Sports Car Market seminar that Keith Martin puts on, and Craig Jackson came by and chatted with us for a while. While Craig is an old Ferrari nut, B-J's main bidness is American muscle cars. Simply put, if you want to sell a Hemi, take it to Scottsdale. If you want to sell a Ferrari, you take it to Pebble.

Muscle car prices going up? Really? Car in my profile goes to any man who'd rather have it than his Ferrari. I'll even throw in an engine or 3. Hey, it's a great investment, right? :D

I thought the Ferrari's at B-J fetched market price while the muscle cars went for stupid money. Is $251k for a Barchetta a deal? I don't think so. It's lower than asking price, but how does it fare against actual sale price? It may have been all the money for that car.

I'm not a big fan of muscle cars but that GT 500 Mustang they had was beautiful. I think it went for over $250,000.

When I was growing up all of the older guys on the street
had muscle cars 57chevy's 63Chevy convert. 62vette etc.
These guys were serious they entered their cars in shows
and 1 became pres. of the Corvette club here in St. Louis.
I on the other hand was a fan of foreign sportscars.
But I do have to say that the Shelby GT-500 was the only
    Muscle car I ever considered.
    I passed on a 500KR for $8500 back in the late 70's.

I use to have date this girl and her dad was a real car guy.Mainly Porsche and Muscle. And he takes me into his garage one day beause he knew i was obssesed with cars and showed me his gt500.It still had the original paint job on it. Adark green with white rally stripes. Hardly any miles on it and only one owner befre him which was his brother. The only real mile son realy were when he drove it from Cali back to Evansville Indiana whne he bought it from his bro. Theres that show called My Classic Car with Dennis gage and Dennis os from where i live and for his pilot episode to he used His gt500. On a slightly related note heres a picture i always thought was funny with Dennis Gage and myself.

This thread kills me, in the past 25 years I have owned many mint early Z28s ,GTOs,Mopars, 427 SS and more. Here is a pick of my 67 Firebird, not an overly valuable car but with big block and 4 speed, a blast in a straight line, she was my daily driver in the early 90s. I guess I should have hung on to my Z28 and 66-Super Sport, they seem to be worth more than my Ferrari, who would of figured?

I wish I had my old 1966 Pontiac GTO back. One of the first things I noticed about driving my Ferrari 330 2+2 was the handling and overall feel similarities of the two cars. Both relatively big and heavy 4 seaters with plenty of power, good handling and brakes and a great sound. To me the big V8 rumble alone is nothing to compare with the V12 sound but combined with the whine of the Pontiac's Muncie 4 speed the effect was just as entertaining. The Pontiac also excelled at the stoplight. Dump the clutch from a standing start and keep the gas on the floor all the way. Not recommended in your vintage Ferrari. Now that I have the Ferrari, I appreciate how Pontiac "got it right" in the mid '60s with the GTO.

enzo, thats a nice car. geeze i must be backwards. i have been selling off my z28's, trans ams, and older vettes to get a freaking fcar. i ahve always wanted a 308gts, i may get a gt4 or a 400 ect. i am sure the regulars are sick of reading this by now.( it takes time i am looking i promise!!) when you look at how many of a particular type were made it becomes clear......
1977 bandit trans am,( code y82/y84) 384 made without t tops with a 4 speed, 2699 made with t tops and a 4 speed. they made 155,735 of the 1977 firebirds total. the "rare" or high option z28's and chevelles are the same way. you guys saw a few of the bad ass rare cars here and there, and tons upon tons of the plain jane cars all the time. many didnt and still dont know the difference from one to the other. its the low volume, high performance cars that are hot, and in demand. the 67 to 69 cars were " saved" by the movies and demand of the baby boomers kids to fix and keep the cars. its the low volume 1970 to 73 cars that suffered the most. i can name people who cut up really rare all numbers matching early 70's car to fix the piece of crap 6cyl 2 speed granny car they wanted to " fix up and make fast". the car they destroyed was way faster and rarer. i sold a low miles 1970 z28 for what a really nice 328 fcar goes for to get my house. i miss the car, but i needed the cash. some of my bandit cars, z28's and my 73 super duty 455 trans am all went to people who remebered and worshipped the cars and could not get them until now. they are like me, 1) i can work on it 2) i aint going to sell it anytime soon and i dont care about depriciation cause it doesnt exsist with these cars, they now go up , not down. when i find " MY" fcar its going to be a long term keeper. i had my piece of crap 1981 turbo trans am for 13 years. i bought it with 47k miles on it, i sold it a few months ago with 69k miles on it. i loved and hated it. if i can work on a GM turbo v8 that everyone hates, and work on business jets, a ferrari is going to be a piece of cake. muscle cars will bottom out in the next 3 years, oil/fuel prices affect us " normal" blue collar types more than anything else. mark my words, i have redneck freinds with 30k 4x4 trucks that cant drive them because of the gas mileage, and they make good money. the ferrari crowd has money to burn ( generally speaking, dont flame me ) so the cars with level off and stay there, where ever " there" is. sorry for the small novel i wrote, i love this stuff!!!!!!!!! michael.

Nice car! Is it a '66 or '67? I've forgotten the small details. I had a dark red/black coupe with all performance & handling options except for tripower.

It looks like you have a good chunk of the price of a lower end vintage V12 or a Mondial, 308, or 328 sitting right there.

It is a 66 with A/c and the 4spd Hurst. All it takes is someone looking for some American Muscle and it would go to new home for the next 15 years.

Just think about it. If you sell your LeMans for six or seven thousand dollars, you will have about one fourth of the amount needed to purchase a 308 Ferrari that will require even thousands of more dollars of upgrading and maintainence. Who wants $50 Pontiac water pumps when you can have an $800 Ferrari pump? Why bother with Poncho's old 8 cylinder distributor ignition system and it's associated trips to the local parts store. You can forget about it and upgrade to a dual 4 cylinder distributor system in your new 308 that will dump tons of raw unburned gas into your exhaust system when one of the coils goes bad thereby turning your mufflers into a red hot blast furnace. And who needs easy to find 15 inch wheels. If you're lucky, your new 308 will have those goofy metric tires and wheels to extract even more mega-dollars from your wallet. And what fun is it to do major engine work with the motor still under the old Indian's hood. With a Ferrari, you get to "pull the mill" for nearly every problem. Yes sir, sounds like it's time to upgrade.

(This sarcastic reality update brought to you by the ghost of Ed Gault.)

    Whew, isn't that the truth!!
The first 2 cars I owned were british(Healey,Lotus) the 3rd was
German(911)I sold the 911 and put a down payment on a house
and bought a Corvette Not much really went wrong with the
vette but when it did it seemed soooooo inexpensive after
    owning the foreign cars.
