Sorry for the all caps but... A new virus JUST began. See: http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=mydoom It JUST hit about 2 hours ago and is spreading like wildfire! Enjoy the Music, Steven R. Rochlin
Yes, we got hit at Sprint and my personal email is full of about 10 of these. As of this afternoon, most of the major virus protection companies didn't have a scan for it yet.
Just got an email from [email protected] entitled Hello with an attachment... It says right in the body: The message contains Unicode characters and has been sent as a binary attachment. ...and the attachment is called data.zip... Thanks for the warning, Steve, i would've opened this, downloaded and been f_cked...
saved just in time Carb.http://news.com.com/2100-7349_3-5147605.html?tag=nefd_lede read the first paragraph it describes exactly what you had.
Well... i did not get it, but as my address seem to reside on tens of thousands of people's computers. Therefore ANYTHING that hits and i seem to get aware of it very early Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Rochlin
Ok, I have to ask....what the HELL are your email admins doing at Sprint? Any competent admin would have blocked inbound executables (etc) a long time ago, with the possible exception of carefully controlled 'transfer' mailboxes. Any modern SMTP server can be configured to examine the contents of zip files and clean them up/strip the executables. Couple that with proper firewall rules to limit access to personal emails at work, and you have a secure environment. C'mon, that's just bush-league work. We were automagically blocking this virus before it ever hit the mailing lists. In fact, the first one we blocked was at 1:02 PM Central Time. I am available for consulting at a hefty hourly wage
Eh, I shouldn't have ranted. Just irritates me to see poor workmanship. Fortunately, it's not my problem
LOL, it's been my problem today, but 10 emails didn't bother me. What bothers me is these huge 4,000 person lists and someone will send an email out to all something that's not wanted and then at least 200 people will reply to all to tell that person not to send the email out to the entire list. Then you have another 200 people emailing to all telling the 200 people that replied to all not to reply to all.
rob328gts, And THAT reminds me of a commercial. And they told two friends, who then told two friends, and so on, and so on Enjoy the Shampoo, Steven R. Rochlin
