Before everyone gets there hopes up this is something motor trend came up with not ferrari. Still though on page 78 they have a sketch of the 350 Dino. I think it sound awesomee and looks cool to. Let me know what you think.
If you don't have the mag they should have the "wish list" on motortrend.com soon.

I'm not really liking the headlights. Its too german (Porsche, VW) for me, as well as the the rest of the front view. But the side looks ok, I hope it doesn't have 512M style wheels thats for sure.

I wonder if we can petition Ferrari to build the car. Badging it a Dino would seem to be a good way to avoid pissing off the " I paid $300,000 for Ferrari excusivity!" crowd. I know I would be the first person on the dealer's doorstep to order one. It would be like buying concert tickets. I'd camp out at the door! :)

The only stipulation would be that the guy that designed the Enzo would not be allowed anywhere near the draft table! :)

You're right. Maybe if they graft an ugly, F1-inspired nose on the car it would be an improvement. :

First off, anyone critiquing the sketch is wasting time because it's based solely off of one artist's vision, NOT spyshots.

Second, I'd guess that Ferrari will never build a mass market entry level car (under $100k) for a few reasons, but mainly due to limited production line capacity and profit margin.

If you have a fixed amount of product fulfillment then it makes sense to maximize the profit margin within that maximum cap. Right now Ferrari can produce up to 4000 cars, which means that a 5,000+ volume low cost model like the one MT describes is simply not feasible when having to still produce all other F-cars concurrently.

Plus what manufacturer actually wants to compete in the brutal under $100k category anyway? As a recent example the Maserati Coupe got it's a$$ kicked, and has seen depreciation thus far that makes the NSX look like an S-class Mercedes. (Note to Maser fans, I said the COUPE, not the spyder, which is holding its value better due to being in a different demographic than the coupe or this proposed Dino.)

Then you've got the American iron suddenly to contend with in the form of the Viper, Vette, Vette Z06 (soon to be sporting 500HP), and of course a LOT of different P-cars right on up to the bonafide "bargain" GT3. The list goes on and on.

The RIGHT way to do it if you're going to do it at all is the way Lotus is doing it with the sub-$50k Elise: Bare bones track car, good power to weight, low cost, and just enough volume.

Napolis will probably chime in here with some accurate commentary, but truthfully as much as a pipedream this concept "Dino" is for MT and F-chatters, and even myself, it will never exist.

  23. I hope the performance is atleast that of a Gallardo.

I understand your argument but I have one question. When the original Dino was produced, couldn't it be out-gunned by just about any period American muscle car? And at a fraction of the price? For some, myself included, speed insn't everything.
