Why did Risi and FoW go to the Maserati GT's? The factory must of had something to do with it. They spent all of last year perfecting the 360 GT and it has a weight/HP advantage over the Maserati. It just makes no sense to me except there was money involved. All that hard work on the 360 GT and they end that program for the Maserati. I would of been OK with the 360 GTC and I think that car is even better than the 360 GT.

So far after the first two practice sessions the Maseratis from Risi and FoW are 3 seconds off the pace of some 911's and over 2 seconds off what they ran last year in the 360 GT.

Rob, I think that Maserati is NOT selling well in the US or in Europe. This is an attempt to put some life back into the brand. FOW did some serious developement of the 360 to make it competitive and now the Factory wants them to do it for the Maserati. I hope it works because I actually like the new Maseratis, I want to see them stick around.

FWIW Rob, I was told that Mr. Risi's team is about as close to be a factory team as you can get without being the factory. I suspect the same is true for FOW.

They are struggling because they just got the cars, and it's a blank piece of paper.

But, hey, at least Ferrari and Maser are racing, which is more than you can say for some other car companies.

Yep, the only thing that makes sense is what you say. I bet they gave FoW and FoH the cars, parts, tech support, and maybe a driver or two. Greg Ray of IRL fame was supposed to drive the Risi car and canceled last week, now they have an Italian hot shoe in there. Former owner and driver of my car, Steve Earle, is in the FoW Maserati.

If no money was coming from Italy, then for their sake and the sake of sponsors they would of kept the 360 GT. I just noticed that Calpont isn't listed as a sponsor on the Maserati this year. That's another interesting twist.

    Rob,

I talked with Mr. Risi. They are going to run the Maserati at Daytona only. They will race the 360GT for the full ALMS series and Lemans. They were at Florida testing the 360GT two weeks ago......

Does that make you feel any better??????

They also just received the all-new Maserati GT Light a week ago. The one they tested two weeks ago was the old Trofeo prototype and I was told it was very tired. They are working very hard to get the new car set up properly. I am sure there is midnight oil burning tonight..........

Thanks James. Now it makes sense.

The 360 GTC would probably take so long to get to where the 360 GT is already. Also have to consider the financial impact. The Forza article provided a bunch of insight. There's not an unlimited budget.

Sorry, it is actually the GTC they will be running as far as I know. They have been doing a lot of development work on it the past month or so. I will let you know more as I learn it.

Really? From the Forza article on Risi Comp I thought they were running the 360 GT again, the GTC would cost much to develop from scratch unless Italy gives them the cars. I'm sure at minimum Risi gets a good deal on them.

For those who frequent Crystal Cove, you may have met my neighbor Joe Kunz (who drove his full-race GT3 cup car to the Cove one morning - with me scouting ahead via cell phone).

Joe is racing at Daytona tomorrow (24 hour). He is in car 17, GT3 Cup car of AASCO Motorsport (a company he and a friend own). There is a crowd of drivers, but the two cars, # 16 and # 17 should be fun to watch.

Did you notice that Risi Comp actually qualified 1/2 second better than FoW but starts in 39th while FoW starts in 28th? And they did that time in 1st round qualifying. I wonder what the deal is. They had to run 2nd round qualifying today to make the grid. ???????????????????????

Check out car 15 of the prototype's, it is driven by Tom Hessert and his 17 year old son.

you met Tom at the Atlantic City F-chat outing. He was the one who brought his F-40 to the outing.

These last results are a little weird because of a yellow flag for debris and also the timing of pit stops. The #73 is all the way back to 31st now.

James, I'm sure you heard it, but they explained the back starting position for several cars because they didn't notify of which qualifying driver properly.

    Rob,

I just checked my last e-mail that I had gotten from Tony N. and he said that Risi Comp was going to definitely run the 360 GTC (heavy emphasis on the "C") for the entire ALMS series and Lemans. Should be interesting for the rest of the GT field. Too bad they are not doing it at Daytona.

I can't wait to see the 360 GTC running! I am so tired of the porsche GT3 RS parade in ALMS & at Le Mans. I hope the GTC is the answer to Porsche's new RSR's.
