I don't think any type of lock/spring washer is required for the valve cover. It came from the factor with a flat washer.

I used a Motec sensor. 55001: Bosch Water Temp Sensor M12 X 1.5
Remove the wire at the oil temp sender and ground it. you should see full scale reading. If so, sensor is bad. If not, check the gauge or wiring.
I installed mine (QV) in the block below the plenum. The location was previously occupied by a sensor for the Bosch system.
