Are you smelling fuel from the carbs? If the vacuum flap is disabled (or removed) on the air cleaner then you would smell fuel at rest. And...

Sounds like a fuel injector issue to me. The warm up injector is keeping it going until it turns off. Try having the injectors cleaned....

They could fall off because they aren't torqued correctly. The factory did the engineering around the steel lug bolts and set the proper torque...

I suspect that I am correct when I surmised my CATS had a more difficult time burning the "synthetic" oil thereby causing more smoke from the car...
