Does anyone know the last few chassis numbers of the 328 GTS or when the last cars were registered in the UK? Mine is a 1990 car but I want to know have far from the end of the line it is. Thanks

    Hi Phil,

I asked a similar question a few months back but it was not answered. In the US the VIN does contain the date of manufacture, so you may want ask the US F-chatters. If the serial numbers are sequential, that should help pin it down.

According to what I have the last British 328 GTS was 83092. 83105 was the last altogether, which was a US version. The last 328 GTB was 83017.

    Hope that helps.

    Jonathan

PS. Please let us know if yours is the last one!

Sorry this is inaccurate - The last 328 was a GTS and is/was 83136, Last GTB was indeed 83017.

No 328's were manufactured in 1990, Your car may have been registered in that year, but the last manufacturing build sheet was completed on 24th November 1989.

Thanks for the info. The website explaining VIN numbers is very useful. My car was first registered in January 1990 so, yes, it seems it would have been built in 89.

Am I being stupid or do I just minus the VIN number (well the last 5 digits of the 17 anyway) from the last one built 83136 to see how many were built after mine?

I don't think you can just subtract from the last number. I think VIN's were just added as cars came off the line and weren't model specific. The VIN number next to yours might be a Testa, mondial or even an F40. My 328 is also an '89 81523...what number do you have?

    Cheers
    Simon

    Greetings.

I'd be curious where the information on 83105 originates, as the information I have shows 83075 as latest 328. May I ask what the source is?

    Thanks

hmmm the plot thickens.... Is it a wise idea to post VIN numbers online for all to see?

I don't see any issue with posting VINs. They are clearly visible on the steering column of most Ferraris, are extensively quoted by people including in Cavallino, Forza etc. and on most Ferraris sold in the US, but also by the likes of Talacrest, Kent High Performance etc. in the UK. There are also a good number of people who keep databases on Ferrari serial numbers and the histories of individual cars including recognized marque historians like Marcel Massini, Keith Bluemel, Mike Sheehan etc.

You'll notice that on my registry, the complete VIN is not available, nor is ownership/location publically visible (although that information is actually collected). I'm just trying to keep up with the histories of the various cars.

I'm also about 900 records behind on the online version vs my paper records :( Gotta get busy...

My information comes from the UK Ferrari Owners Club Register. The model range information therein was gathered by Geoff Willoughby and Robert Abraham. I don't have any information on that specific car but I do have 83091 as a UK version car (or were you meaning 83075 as the last US version rather than the last 328 GTS altogether?).

    Jonathan

Edit: I have 83075 as a UK RHD 328 GTS as well, I've just realised.

My info comes from the Original Ferrari V8, which may be incorrect

It shows the last GTS as 83075, and the last GTB as 83017.

The 2 litre cars with the updated bodyshells were produced a bit longer, with serials numbers of 83137 (GTB Turbo) and 83158 (GTS Turbo)

    Is 83091 a 3.2?

I do have a current list of chassis number ranges etc. from Keith Bluemel (author of Original Ferrari V8) somewhere, but I'm not sure where just now.

    83091 is a red/cream 328 GTS, British version RHD.

I have just found Keith Bluemel's list (in the current issue of Cavallino) and it agrees with Seb, showing 83136 as the last 328 GTS.

Me again! I have just realised that I do actually have details of 83136 in my database anyway. It is currently in the UK, although I am not sure if it was originally a UK delivered car or not.

83136 is UK car, it was delivered on the 12/10/89 to the selling dealer (can't trace at present) and registered for warranty on 6/12/89.

It was painted in Rosso SER 300/9 and came with black carpets
