dave i deliberately have not read this thread till it got going so i could read the progress, it looks awesome mate, and i bet she will be super quick this year, looking forward to seeing her when we convoy down to silverstone mate
thanks boys .... kev mentioned "painstaking" in an earlier post. I quite enjoy pottering in the garage over the winter months and would'nt describe it as such, but this year it has been a tad busier than normal .... went to tax her yesterday (such is the confidence level) - nice surprise, "That'll be £5 please sir" ... I had forgotten, she was twenty five years old in January. Hope the postman delivers the goods on saturday ... perhaps stig may do his hypnotic thingy as with dale, and his new job. cheery bye, d
Dave, It's nice to know that if they run out of plates at the Limetrees next month we can eat our dinner off your engine!
All finished, and heart racing ..... connect battery ..... turned her over a couple of times with no fuel .... all seem well. Poured in two gallons of petrol .... hands shaking .... replace fuel pump fuse. Ignition on ..... two or three minutes to fill carbs ..... no throttle cable connected, so three or four blips, by hand, on both banks. Turns key ...... fires first time. WHOOOOOPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
She is a long way from concourse steve, and certainly not to a level where she would warrant an entry. I try very hard to keep Gina as original as possible, so if you look closely there are many parts retained within the engine bay, which are'nt quite as pretty as they should be .... however safety, performance or reliability issues, should always be paramount. The engine bay and tanks were painted simply because I was "in there". If anybody is out there with a carb model, i would encourage you to check your fuel supply lines today .... Ginas' were well rotten. Lots still to do now, set timing, check ignition advance, balance etc. carbs, road test, oil and filter to change, air filter etc. I was hoping to skim the brake discs and refurb the whole system, but that will now have to wait 'til after lime trees, but before le mans. (not that it is currently poor). cheers, d
All the carbs balanced, mixtures and tickovers set, rear wheel arches and wheels on, new front steering rack gaiters fitted. Just have to fit one undertray, front wheels to fit, and then road test. She sounds and ticks over superbly. Will report on road test mon/tues. cheers, d
Dave, Nice job, looks like all those long hours spent "on the job" have paid off - well done and hope the road test went okay.
Took my beloved out this evening, into the cool air of a sunny spring evening .... she looked absolutely gorgeous with no knickers on, and a nice clean motor. Left her to warm on the drive, then off we went, absolutely perfect .... smooth, responsive, powerful, throughout the whole of both the gearbox and the rev. range .... did well to keep my grin within the cabin. Brakes are better, probably due to the new vacuum pipe. I'm sorry gina, i should not have left you to deteriorate for so long. Well chuffed ! d
dave spot the delibrate mistake you have put the wrong colour plug leads on they was black not red like grahams trousers
