Anyone have a place to get the copper washers at a reasonable price?

If you mean buying just 1 or 2 retail -- no ;)

If you buy a handful (so the shipping cost makes sense), try Global Metrics -- the information is here:

Or do an internet search on "Copper Washer DIN 7603A" -- might give you some other possible retail sources.

Thanks, I was just surprised at the cost someone gave me of $19.34 each. Seems pretty high to me. How much should I be paying?

I have never paid more than $1.20, even from Ferrari of Seattle.

$2 each would be a high retail gouge IMO -- $20 each is kooky.

Depending on size, when you buy 20 or so it usually works out to ~$0.50 each.

I'm pretty sure Daniel at Ricambi America (one of our sponsors) carries them, as I order a bunch a couple of months ago (along with a new oil drain plug). IIRC, I didn't pay much more than a buck each for them.

Thanks, I should have thought of contacting one of the sponsors. I will order from Daniel in the morning.

JSL, you dont have to replace the copper drain plug just put a light coat of hylomar gasket sealer on each side and presto! not one drop of oil.

Thanks, order sent this am. I guess the other person was including the plug in addition to the washer.

    Daniel,
What is the reason to replace the drain plugs? Are they considered a "wear" item, and should be periodically replaced?

In my opinion (and it's just my opinion), the main plug is pretty cheap and the head tends to get chewed up. Secondly, I drain my oil into a big Home Depot 5 gallon paint bucket. I don't like to get my hands too dirty, so I just let the plug and washer go flying into that bucket of oil. You can be damn sure I'm not fishing it out !

The plug in the tank is certainly optional -- and I only include it because I know of this dude who was changing oil in a 348 and let's just say, for argument's sake, he screwed that one up too. Now, this dude who screwed it up felt like he wanted to save others from the same problem, and thought offering it would make sense.

Bottom line? Only the filter is 100% absolutely necessary. You could heat the copper washers and reuse them. However, for the incremental $2, it seems like a no-brainer (to me).
