I just installed a capristo in my 355 and it sounds awesome. Is there any harm in wiring the bypass valve open? I heard it may lead to premature cat failure.

PS. I originally had a Tubi in the car. It is for sale.

I had MY99 F355's exhaust by-pass valve wired opened a few months ago. I thought it was fine, but after 3 start-up my slow down and check engine lights came on. It takes 3 start ups initially for the ECU the trigger the lights. You will then need to get the OBD-2 de-coder to clear it or back to the dealer. But the answer is NO, DO NOT wire the E.B.P.V. open on your 99'. I have read some earlier cars 95' with no ill effect, and even some 96 and 97'.
If you could please attach a sound file of the Capristo, I like to hear how it compares to the Tubi.

I also have a de-cat- Cappy. The problem that i have with wireing the valve open is that there is no on of sound change as the valve opens. And i think the Capristos sound was designed around the valve opening and closing. With the valve left alone there are two sound levels one deep and one very high, the valve wired open spoils that IMO, i have tried it for all of 10 mins.

If you want to get a real F1-sound with you F355 then go
with Hyperflow cats and a challenge muffler.

I have a tubi challenge with testpipes on my F355.

To me, it sounds like a F1 at high revs.

BTW, how does the challenge muffler look like and what are the differences compared to the tubi?

There are two oiginal challenge mufflers.
The loud one is only a pipe, no silencer.
This is the one that makes a real F1-sound.

    Hey leang,

    look here : www.eurospares.co.uk

At the moment I think they offer a special challenge pipe.
The price is about 870 Pounds.
Go to the 355 challenge cars on their website, there
you can see the special challenge exhaust.

    But remember:
You the have a beast with 118dBA sound.
F1 cars have about 121 dBA.
The car is not only loud, it's F1 music made by the engine.
You can't compare this pipe with tubi or capristo. Bull****.
............hope you are living in an industrial area with no police departments.....

Hi all, When i had my exhaust installed, I noticed that there was no threaded hookup for a probe looking sensor that gets screwed into the exhaust. The shop just strap tied it against the main pipe. Will this give me a chceck engine light?

Yes, that's exactly right. Mine is strap tied too. When my Capristo was installed I was told I "might" get a CEL. But so far no check engine light yet. If it does come on, just clear it so I was told.
