OK, there are plenty of threads on 'the fastest you've been caught speeding'. Here is one on the slowest speed you were caught speeding. I got a ticket for doing 47mph in a 35 zone. That red Ferrari does stand out.

    Welcome to Austraila. :D
I was going to argue with the Policeman, as there is a 10% speedo variance which allows that. Meaning ever cars speedometer is different. I should have been ALLOWED to do 66km/h in a 60km/h zone. Everyone is because every car is different. But my car at the time was not 100% street legal, so I just thanked him and was on my way.

"At last, Swiss border. And now I shall be leaving the EU and automotively speaking at any rate, ENTERING THE DARK AGES.

The trouble with Switzerland is that they have no tolerance at all of speed and….cars…..pollution. If Steve McQueen had actually made that jump ( Clarkson pointing to some terrain on the Swiss border) on his bike in the Great Escape into Switzerland, they would have arrested him for reckless driving

    (Ferrari 612)
Ohh it sounds good in a tunnel. What am I doing I’m in a Swiss tunnel???? I’ll go to prison for 30 years for being in 3rd gear in a tunnel here."

Years ago my mom got a ticket for 37 in a 35 zone. The cop told her that she went around a corner that fast driving our '78 Chevy El Camino. About 12 years ago driving down to San Diego to start my senior year of college, I was pulled over for 65 in a 65 zone along I-5. The CHP officer was only doing about 62 so I eventually caught up to him, and he tried to argue with me about the size of my tires and crap like that, but eventually the only thing he cited me for was not having a front license plate on my car due to me having hit a seagull in San Diego (broke the license plate frame and bent the plate so I had them in the spare tire compartment). My mom was with me and she started mouthing off a little to the jackass, but I took the fix-it ticket and went along my way.

<40 in a 35. I launched it pretty hard from a light for giggles, but didn't break the tires loose, and I was slowing down when he lit 'em. Cop was a prick. 20 minutes of yacking about kids and dogs and crap (industrial area, light traffic-- yeah, sure), during which some kid in a riced out Honda flew past doing 60+.

I have a $300 fine that needs to be paid at the end of the week.

I got pulled over by two detectives in an unmarked car on my 21st birthday (!!) for 'speeding up' to cross an intersection under a yellow light.

I completely lost my sh*t and almost had a shouting match with the bastards...

In hindsight if I had acted like a wimp, sucked up to them, expressed my sorrow at commiting such a henious crime and and appealed to their sympathetic side... perhaps I may have gotten off.

    "What's your date of birth?"

    "Today!" (you f*ckers!!)

I guess I could still go to court and protest it but I somehow don't like my chances...

    Ugh. 56mph in a 55 zone driving a gunmetal grey 300ZX.

...all because the highway patrolman for that area, a monster with the angelic name of "Gideon," had a hard-on for my girlfriend at the time.

He was pulling her over any time that he saw her. He was pulling me over anytime that he saw me.

Oddly, he never pulled us both over when we were together, though he did have 2 of his ATF friends hassle us one night out a lakeshore parking area.

You've just got to sit there and take it. When officers go out of their way to hassle you, but don't cross the "making something up" line, there just isn't much (within reason) that you can do.

On a positive note, the 56mph in a 55 zone turned out to be a good thing, surprisingly. The judge listened to my story, and I told it fairly (as Officer Gideon was within the law as I *was* driving 56mph - though to any fair mind he was clearly hassling my girlfriend and myself), and threw out that ticket as well as another that Officer Gideon had given me earlier, plus threw out one ticket given to my girlfriend.

It cost me $4 for court costs...something that I didn't really understand at the time (perhaps it was a jury fee because I asked for a jury even though the judge heard my case one on one), but who cares about $4 when 2 tickets are being removed from my record!

Two tickets by the same cop in less than 20 minutes. The first was for going 45 in a 25 - I was in high school driving my girlfriends car that belonged to her dad. It was the first speeding ticket I had and it was in a yellow 1993 Lotus Esprit S4. Her dad was dumb enough to leave his keys in his sports cars. I got the first ticket in front of her high school when we went to pick up one of her friends. My girlfriend told him the car belonged to her dad and she pleaded to let us off with a warning. He gave me the ticket anyway. It was the best ticket I ever got.

After that, we picked up her girlfriend and the cop pulled me over again for exceeding the capacity of the intended use of the vehicle. The second girl did not have a seat belt. I gladly took the second ticket and the cop laughed. He said to me "who could blame a young guy for picking up a couple of babes in a car he's only gonna drive one time."

70 in a 65 on my '91 Yamaha FZR600. I was pulled over on a Saturday morning at 7:00 on the way to work. Not a single other car on the freeway, four lanes completely open. I noticed a CHP officer astride a new BMW highway patrol bike, sitting at a complete stop on the left median, in the dirt. I actually slowed down to about 55 to see if he was in trouble, because he was in such an odd place, and waved at him. Half a mile later he was beside me yelling at me to pull over, to my surprise. I'm always very polite with police officers, and even after asking him how he liked his new ride, and making a bit of motorcycle chit-chat, he still wrote me a ticket. I will never understand that one.

The worst part about that ticket, besides the fact that it was completel unnecessary, was that I was going to US Coast Guard boot camp about two weeks later and had to have the ticket cleared from my record before I could go. I even told him that, and he gave me the ticket.

Switzerland has speed cameras all over the freeways. They send the ticket in the mail to your house. You go to open up the mail and.. hello ticket from last week.

Also, if you get pulled over there, unlike the states, you pay the fine immediately. If you don't have cash, they will take a credit card. If you don't have cash or a credit card, they can follow you to an ATM so you can withdraw money there.

They will also stop cars randomly to make sure you have the right safety equipment (some triangle hazard thing and other such items).

I was visiting a friend in Zurich and we had gone to Italy for a few days. While we drove home, at about Locarno we noticed that a headlight had burnt out. My Swiss friend very got really nervous and was paranoid about the police stopping us over it (IIRC he had just gotten some speeding tickets). I was like, "we're only a few hours from home, and it's like 11pm... what are the odds we get stopped!?"

Sure enough, on the highway before Zurich the lights come on behind us. We pulled into a rest stop and the police pulled in. They got out and after a few minutes of negotiation they didn't give him a ticket but they stood there and made him go into the gas station store and buy a new bulb and waited for us to install it. He was just mad because the store charged over CHF 20 for the bulb (double price).

I got nailed in Fayetteville, (one of the Carolinas, they are both the same to me) for doing 77 in a 70 on route 95.
Of course, it was in my white dodge minivan, as I got all my tickets in this dammed car.

Anyway, the officer pulls me over.

Officer - Do you know how fast you were going

    Me - No

Officer - 77 Mph, Do you know what the speed limit is?

    Me - 65?

    Officer - UH, No, it's 70 Mph

Me - (Laughing) - Then WTF did you pull me over?!?! If I drive 7mph over the limit in New Jersey, I'll get run over!

Officer - This isn't NJ, son.

Me - Does this have anything to do with me being a Yankee????

Officer - Wer'e not going there.

Result - Ticket was about $10, and about another $75 for court costs.
2 points on the NJ lisence for speeding - Other
