For the ones that cant get TopGear I uploaded the "youtube" style vid from last nites show. http://www.coresworld.net/Lamborghini/LP640/ Hires avi coming soon.
Thanks for this. Clarkson's questionable opinions aside, Top Gear has some of the most amazing video on television today. The production values seem to keep getting better each show, and this video follows the trend. Fantastic lap time, btw.
That LP640 was wrecked during the filming of the Top Gear segment. You can see in some shots it is raining heavily, which at one point caused an unnamed test driver to leave the track, causing so much damage that the car was in Lamborghini's repair shop for 2 months. The driver was unhurt. I'm suspicious of this whole little film. I find it hard to believe that the LP640 would, by 13mph, be the fastest car down the runway (K-segg CCX 194mph), but only make 6th place on the lap times board. Watch The Stig's lap and he is not pushing the LP640 at all. Something smells bad in Surrey.
LP640 is awesome! 1.1 secs faster lap than the 60 lbs heavier SLR. All the other "real" cars that have faster or same lap times are from 600+ lbs (Enzo, CGT) to 1,000+ lbs (CCX) lighter. I'm amazed it matched the CGT lap time. And it also beat the Gallardo by 6 seconds. I also loved the looks of that fast lap, seemingly no drama, no sliding, no tire smoke, just speed! My kinda car.

Surprisingly enough, I was anxiously awaiting this review on TG, but it didn't deliver - at all. I also agree on the point about The Stig not pushing it much at all during the time attack.
Interesting point, didnt know about the accident... But the "power laps" on Topgear are rarely shown in full and usually always sliced up. For all we know that powerlap vid is 5 or 6 laps put together to make it look like 1.(therefore the start shown could of been on a slower lap). Usually they show the accidents of the Stig so it is strange they didnt on last nites show..
It's a shame with the great production values they don't go out and buy HDTV gear. Imagine seeing that same segment in 1080p Yeah, don't know what he was going on about... Hypercars and all that. The segment was abit similar to the original Murcielago one, it would of been nice to have more comparisons to the older car. Next week is the final episode for the season, lets hope they get the 599 to test!!!
It was likely that it was not during the power lap, which is sometimes filmed at a completely different time than the main body of the reviews. Sometimes they use the same car and sometimes they dont. From what has been said (and that isn't much) it sounds as though the accident occurred during the main filming for the review during the heavy rain that can be seen briefly during the clip. My personal speculation is that Clarkson had the accident going for the top speed and they didn't make news of it due to Hammond's wreck last summer. Watching that section of the review a couple things don't add up. He's driving at 207mph but the scenery seems to be going by a little slowly and he has time and the control to shriek and point through the steering wheel at the speedometer. The Zonda barely reached 186mph before he had to slam the brakes to avoid going off the end of the runway, and the K-segg CCX needed big signs that said BRAKE half a mile before the end of the runway and he spun that coming down from 194mph. It's obvious that either he wasn't actually going 207mph at that point or he's a total retard, and he was. .
Well, the LP640 was 4 seconds faster than the 'dry' Murcielago powerlap... They never did a "how fast is it down our runway" run with the old Murcielago, so we can;t compare that. The Ferrari 599GTB won't be on the final episode of this series, I'm hoping for it to be tested next series. The final episode's main test is expected to be the Ford Mustang Shelby (the Hertz car) or the Shelby GT500...
Are you serious!? Only six episodes? Season 06 had 11! There seem to be a lot of frivilous stuff this season that doesn't have much to do with cars at all. The farming, road works, etc. At least when they did "off" stuff in past series, it pertained to cars somehow. Like mini-cabbing or road test russian roulette, or even launching cars as darts.
The colour is called Verde Draco http://www.coresworld.net/Lamborghini/LP640/Murci_lago_LP640_Product_Information_cdn.pdf One of the 2 new colours introduced with the LP640. Minck00: Last season was 6episodes as well... I dont think we will be getting 11 season episodes anymore
Also it would be nice the ppl posting my links of my hardwork on other boards YET unable to post a comment in here with thanx Nonames need to be said but it's easy to track down a person(via logs) when they use the same login for all the sites they use
Apex, I understand your reasoning, but what does top gear have to gain from faking the lambos top speed? Either way, this car is a beast and is finally being given the respect it deserves after a first couple of lackluster tests, due to "you can't launch a lambo hard" journalists This coupled with the new Quattroroute test show what this car is capable of.
My point is not that they faked the speed, the car is certainly capable of even more. My point is that the car was not doing that speed at that point, because they are hiding the accident. My speculation is that while Clarkson was filming this review he went for a high speed trip down the runway, got to 207mph, and then lost the car braking back down due to the heavy rain. What we see is a "paraphrased" version of that, where Clarkson pretends to make the run and attain the speed, filmed at a later date once the car was repaired. The BBC is keeping the details of the accident very quiet. They won't admit who the driver was or what actually occurred. All that has been said is: "an LP640 on loan from Lamborghini spun off BBC TVs test track in Dunsfold, Surrey in heavy rain, putting it in the repair workshop for two months. The driver who has not been named was unhurt". I think that the BBC is keeping this quiet because not all the publicity from Hammond's crash was good. They get quite a bit of flack for 'promoting unsafe driving behaviour'...
It has the standard wheel because that's what you get on the LP640 if you don't plunk down the extra cash for the optional wheels.
Ah ok Apex, I see now. And yes, I meant top speed on the amount of room given Yes those are the standard roadster wheels, and IMO are far better looking. One of the best looking factory wheels ever made. Look fantastic on the Diablo as well.
