    Texas of course!
Getting ready to plan the 30k service on a 90 348, and considering forum sponsor Norwood as the shop unless I can get one off stooges to help me bang around on it and/or find suitable space before summer is out. Read somewhere all it took was beer and dinner and a shade tree for them to do this kind of stuff, lol.

Anyhow, nothing wrong with it as far as I can tell, but when its out, its one of those deals where I think I may want to replace this at the same time. Is there any other option than the $1200 OE unit? What about aftermarket alternatives? A rebuild kit is just the seals, and only runs $50, but barrings, etc? A race electric water pump costs about that much, lol, and doesn't need the engine to drive it.

You could always get one from that guys that sells them on Ebay for US$299 by memory. That is an exchange one too I think. Or.........you could your pump overhauled, (seal and bearings) replaced by a workshop that rebuilds waterpumps? I wouldnt pay US$1200, when there are those other alternatives. I would also not worry about the electric water pump either. Get your pump overhauled or get that exchange one off ebay. I think No Doubt is using that guys waterpump by memory. :):)

Is there a core charge so I can get the new waterpump first? What is this seller's name? $1200 does cut into the budget nicely for some other things I wanted to do to the car still :) Just seems really high fir a mechanical pump when your's isn't bad.

Ricambi sells the gasket kit, don't know anyone that redoes the barrings, etc, the parts that could fail.

Great! On my way to a full but reasonable major service. The core charge isn't even that bad. Could keep the original peice as desk art at the office to laugh at.

No for all the hoses, the OE ones seem a little pricey, and the better ones that last longer are blue? Eh, what you all do. Would like the better stuff that might even cost less, but blue?

Whoa. Stop the bus. Why exactly are you replacing or rebuilding it? Is there play in the bearing? Does it leak? If it ain't broke....

What is the truth about the water pump and the 30K service? Some camps claim it should be replaced? My thoughts.......$299 +- equals cheap insurance!

I'm with David in that line of thinking. Norwood might still be in Texas, but like 500 miles away. I'm going that way for a trip and thought it might be a good stopping point, but want to get most things done while the motor is out.

Let Mike @ Norwoods do his job as a service adviser, and offer advise/recommendations based on your particular situation and requirements.

In my personal 348 which is just about finished with the 30K service, the pump was inspected and there were no signs of wear/failure. No rebuild, no replacement. It was just shoved back into the car.

Did I hear Beer? Dinner? Shade tree? Sounds like a pending road trip to Texas to me, but I question if you are ready for feeding Fat Billybob. Might be cheaper to pay somebody to do the service. Man, can that guy eat!

I had mine rebuilt by the guy in Mississippi for $99. New bearings and impeller. Sent the original and had it back in 4 days. Looked new.

I think his name is Dick Jordan. I have his address at home, but do a search. It maybe the same guy on e-bay for a lot less.

Thank you! I have had my 348 for 17 years, and have done 3 majors (2 myself), and everytime we checked and wanted to replace the water pump.....and it was fine. So I was advised to leave it alone, and it has been perfect.

I Just spoke with him today, can't beat the price at $119 for a rebuild.

I will keep the group updated, seems to be a good resource.

Had an F355 pump rebuilt by him about six months ago. Great price and the pump works fine but I have to be honest......the pulley came back with a chip/crack that would have cut/thrown the belt if I had not removed the chipped piece and filed the edge smooth. I contacted Dick and he said "that happens sometimes". I was a bit puzzled by his response but still sent him the full payment because it wasn't a big loss. Just stating my personal experience, not trying to bad mouth anyone.

That said I plan to use his service again on my own F355 when I do my engine-out at the end of the year.
