Back on page 36. Looks great black on black.
Definitely does. As for recent spots, there is a very basic-looking Audi R8 parked on Downing and Ellsworth; it's been sitting there for most of the day. It's running Arizona manufacturer plates and is my first R8 spot. Today at Cherry Creek Mall was a Maybach 57 on Colorado temporary license plates. I knew of a 57 running around on California plates, but this is the first one I've ever seen with Colorado plates. Hope to see it more in the future! Also today a pretty common DB9 Volante on 1st and Adams this morning.
My god, that Maybach is hideous! Cool spot nonetheless. I've seen what looks to be that very same R8, I agree with you, it's positively boring.
Back when you made that post I thought to myself, 'pfft, Derek sells Ferrari and Maserati, he's just trying to downplay the R8's styling because he's biased toward the competition.' Err... no. It's boring. However, that would be massively improved if it looked like this - I made fun of that oddly-colored side panel for a while but it helps the look; some stronger wheels are a must-have, too. I live most of the year in Atlanta and trust me - that Maybach is nowhere near as bad as many of the 'rapper's delight' Maybachs I've seen down there. Instantly coming to mind is this 62 (Oct. 7, 2006 at Phipps Plaza in Atlanta, Georgia) - the top color looks like black in that far-away shot but really it's a deep purple - and that's not even mentioning the wheels. In fact today's Maybach spot was one of the first I've seen on stock (aka S-class) wheels. However unlike most other people, I am not a Maybach hater, and frankly I did enjoy seeing the vehicle. I do sincerely hope it's around more for the remainder of the summer.
I understand what you're saying, Doug. The R8 really does need to have the carbon fiber panel and more agressive wheels to really be a stand out...my wife had to practically grab my face to show me the R8 that had just driven directly in front of us! As for the Maybach, like i said, it's a cool spot but it's one of those cars that really makes me scratch my head trying to understand why it's even in existence.
Couple for me today, once on C470 a, what appears to be, Glacial Blue Aston Martin Volante, actually looked like a great color in the sun, just don't ask which model, as I was kinda stuck on the color, haha. Also saw a Titanium? 550 on my way home,Orchard between Broadway and University. I think I've seen/heard this one before, sounded like it had some tone to it. I didnt take this picture but it was taken at the dealership, I happened to be on vacation the week this stopped by...Yes I was a bit upset knowing what I had missed. Heres a pic though....Porsche 959. http://image55.webshots.com/455/8/10/28/2102810280033943721wZbCRj_fs.jpg?track_pagetag=/page/photo/rides/cars&track_action=/Owner/ViewActions/FullSize
Here's a working version of the above link: http://image55.webshots.com/455/8/10/28/2102810280033943721wZbCRj_fs.jpg EDIT: only works sometimes for me. Recent spots of mine: July 22: a Morgan Roadster on 3rd and Fillmore in Cherry Creek, a BMW M6 on 2nd and Milwaukee, and a Bentley Continental GTC with an M6 from Wyoming on Clayton Lane in front of the JW Marriott. It's not often I see exotics on Wyoming plates (not that an M6 is very exotic anymore). All during the evening. July 23: Bentley Arnage on 2nd and Milwaukee during the evening. July 24: frequently-seen Ferrari 348ts on 2nd and Detroit at about 7:30pm and a Maybach 57 on 3rd and Milwaukee at about 8:30. The Maybach (which is the same one I saw Saturday at Cherry Creek Mall) has temporary plates from Mercedes of Westminster that expired in June. Perhaps the owner's trying to save up the cash for registration - it will be over $20,000. Also a DB9 Volante at Cherry Creek Mall during lunch. Here is a shot of my car next to the 'small' Maybach for a visual size reference, since we don't see too many of these in the Denver area.
"Well officer, my wife grabbed my face and I was so startled I nailed the gas and hit the R8. It looks better with that big dent, don't you think? Maybe something Chris Bangle would have designed." Dick Fogg
Yesterday 7-24 5:20pm I saw a silver 360 coupe with rear challenge grill going south on parker at cottonwood. It looked great as it appeared to be a dark silver (although it could have been because he was in a shadow at the time).
The 959 is firmly planted in the top three of my all-time favorite automobiles! Oh the things I would do just to sniff the leather
I think its a different car, the one in my photo belongs to the one of my best friend's family, they are great and generous people. The photo is from fall 2005 one the last days before PPIR closed, we had lots of great cars including a 906 and 908 as well as several 996 and 993 turbos including a 993 Turbo S.
It appears so... they look like they could be different cars. Looking at these pictures, I'd say one of the 959s has the factory rims (top), and the other has more of a chrome-spoke rim. The poster who knows and has seen the second car could possibly verify if those wheels are infact different or not; it could just be the camera angle or the flash that lit it up though. FWIW, about 3 years ago I spotted a Silver 959 Right outside Union Station in Downtown, then drove along side it up 15th st. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I realize the wheels are different but do remember the bottom photo was taken at a track - he could've put those wheels on because they fit his racing tires. Spotted yesterday: gray DB9 Volante on Respect Life plates in Larimer Square at around 8:15pm, black Viper SRT-10 during the afternoon on 1st and Milwaukee, at Elway's valet at around 7:30pm last night an Arnage and an Elise, and a Quattroporte in the afternoon in I-25 just south of I-225.
Whilst driving my Red 360 F1 Spider on McLane Flats just west of Aspen a red 575 Superamerica. Life is good.
Ok, so I'm behind the times. I thought that the 959 was not ever allowed in the US due to import restrictions/problems (the story was they would not "wreck" them to test them, so the US wouldnt let them in). Now, I remember when the car came out, was a Porsche fan, and I thought at least 1 or 2 were confiscated by the US Gov't and were never released, supposedly sitting in some wharehouse somewhere (Bill Gates car? or am I confusing it with a different car). So, what happened? How were they let into the US? Oh, and if there are 3 in colorado, thats a helluva ratio. There were only 200 +/- of these things made, and 2 reds + 1 silver in Colorado is incredible. I've seen a clone here in town, but never a real one. James in Denver
