Well maybe not. Their mentality comes from living through real recession, widespread poverty and sometimes war. Who's to say that won't happen again?

yup..they dont like taking unnecessary risks.

many of the wogs arrived here with one shoe and an empty suitcase....high risk ventures scare them, they know what its like to have nothing

Spot on. It's perhaps unlikely to happen in our lifetimes for Aus/Euro born people but there's plenty of immigrants from northern Africa, Middle East, throughout Asia, who are arriving and know only abject poverty and war - they're not going to change their ways overnight and embrace our relatively more hedonistic culture. It'll take generations: I'm thinking about the kids from my old school whose parents were Vietnam refugees; they learnt from their parents who still work very hard, long hours, often menial jobs and live very frugal existences. And there'll always be more immigrants from places of war/poverty.

And what about the generations of Australians living in the low socio-economic communities in each major city - some of the northern/western suburbs of Melbourne etc. New immigrants and the disabled aside, I've always it very hard to understand how generations become stuck in the rut of poverty - it must be due to mindset, not lack of opportunity to become tertiary educated or learn a trade or whatever.

Whilst a mindset may be applicable to some, there are many who due to several circumstances just don't get the opportunity. Tertiary education ain't cheap these days and with the diminishing availability of apprenticeships, learning a trade isn't easy either.

EDIT: But as Mal said...life wasn't meant to be easy :)

Going to gig later that my friendly bank manager invited me to. Saul Eslake will be there, will be intereting to see what his take on the economy is. Hot tips coming later lads....unless I get too pi$$ed.
