Reviews of the 430S consistently rave about the car. I've read perhaps 20 of them. The same applies to a dozen + reviews of the Audi R8. And now, we see that EVO ranks the R8 just a tad behind the 430S in its exotic car comparison. This implies the R8 would probably outrank a 'standard' 430, at least according to EVO criteria. Moreover, track data convey the R8 is quicker around Hockenheim than a CS. All this has been achieved by an 'entry' level Audi R8 with 'only' 420 HP at half the anticipated cost of a 430S. Moreover, a 500HP R8 is expected to arrive on the scene in the near future.

Though some quibble about looks, those seeing the R8 in the flesh say it's stunning. Quite different than the Nissan GT-R, which is another amazing performer yet dismal in styling and looks. No doubt the R8 will increasingly be included in the top exotics club. I wonder if the euphoria over the 430S might wane a bit in view its lofty cost, the fact it will be shortly superseded by a new F model, and arrival of a 500HP R8 that will likely outdo it.

I believe 'car & driver' as well as 'road & track' clock the R8 doing 0-60 in 4.0 secs and 4.3 secs.

I have driven Audi R8. Only words I can say - nothing special. My feelings were that R8 by performance and handling is aproximatly same as 911 4S. Audi R8 even can not be compared with ordinary F430. I am not speaking of 430 Scuderia at all. Best.

I doubt the Audi will hold it's value & mystique for long. It's an Audi! While browsing the classifieds, I came across a slightly used A8 for $10k... meaning it lost about 90% of it's value in 4 years. Terrible...
Glad to find someone with the balls to tell the truth. That thing is hideous!

Oh come on.... I know nothing about these cars, but this seems a bit skewed. This can't be the norm.

Any other evidence to support that other A8 lose 90% after 4 years? If so, they must be doing something VERY wrong!

Had a VW, uh, Audi RS4 for 5 months as a daily driver - fast, sure - rattled and squeaked like a muther almost from the start, was in the shop waaaay too often, handling/steering feel was poor except under load. Nice seats. Could not wait to get rid of it.

thr R8 is 420 hp and 3 600lbs, 400lbs more than the 430 and 640 lbs more than the 430 s, with sign less hp and inferior handling, and inferior technology...we are talking about different leagues of sports cars...i also had a chance to drive a R8 when it came to our dealership, nice engine sound, good handling and carrera s level acceleration and speed...nice car, but no ferrari, not even a 360.....

4.3 even sounds awfully fast from the time I've spent in an R8... nice car over all though. Would make a good DD if you're looking for something more exciting than a Porsche. It sure wouldn't feel like your CS though...

Firstly compare R8 with SL 65& M6. It's not in SC class. Audi R8 is the unique supersports car in Audi segment. As you know that Lamborghini cars are owner by Audi and there is a likeness in build quality between them. But Lamborghini is mostly ahead from its rival R8 as for performance, engine, ride setup ....

As a long-time Audi owner and enthusiast, I agree that the R8 is a 911 rival. German cars are awesome in thier own way, but they don't have the "emotion" of the Italian exotics. But we also must remember this is Audi's 1st real sportscar...they are just getting their feet wet. I think even when the R8 gets the V-10 motor it will be a close match to the F430 but still not quite on the same level. In regards to the Audi A8...these are absolutely fantastic cars, way ahead of others in build quality and fit and finish. It's pretty much accepted that Audi interiors are the best in their class in the automotive world, sportscars excluded. The lesser Audis do seem to suffer from more gremlins, but the A8 cars are almost completely trouble-free. They don't quite depreciate to the previously quoted 90% mark, but they do - as all luxury sedans do - depreciate quickly, but so do Mercedes, BMW, and Cadillac in this class. Let's be patient about the R8 and see where it goes. I think it's a terrific car now and will only get better.

But back to the comparison of the R8 to the 430....there isn't any....

An R8 went screaming by me last night. Unfortunately, I was in my X5. It looked very sexy and sounded better than I expected. Reminds me alot of my NSX. I think it's competition will be the 911S, AM Vantage, Corvette and new NSX, if it ever get's released.

Sweet car but definately not a F430.

I've also driven both. I took the R8 and the Carrera S2 on the same road a few days apart and ordered the Porsche on the spot. I've also driven an F430 and the R8 doesn't seem in the same league. Very nice car, mind you.

I can't believe this is a topic on fchat. Should not be in the Lambo section. I don't even put the R8 in the same league as a 911. Not even close. A 911 can go straight from the road to the track. An R8 can go straight from the road to ... another road

I understand this is F -Chat and all but some of this is just a bit over critical. "No technology" are you kidding? This is the company who revolutionized the rally world back in the 70's with Quattro, Le Mans in the late 90's with the LMP car of the same name, Le Mans currently with the most advanced DIESEL on the planet, and has produced what is arguably the best manu-automatic transmission in terms of shift times, the DSG which is now being copied by its competitors.

No I haven't driven one and no I doubt it will leave me with the same feeling as when I get out of a Ferrari, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have accolades in its own right. Don't be so myopic that you overlook some amazing feats of engineering just because its doesn't require a belt change every 30k (and yes I am aware that the 430 has a chain)..

Yeah, Audi does own the LeMans series racing right now.

As for the R8, the local dealer wants $180,000 for the black/black one on the floor. I think it's a great car at $100-110k... anything more is just too much, when the 997 GT3 and Turbo are around the corner.

R8......I have one ordered. Should be about time v-10 is introduced.Think I'll have Heffner put a 850 rwhp twin turbo
motor in it.Its only competition will be his twin turbo Gallardo forget about competition...Enzo included performance-
    wise.
Yea I know it won't have any RACING heritage......
