Ok, so maybe I'm the only one that thinks this is cool, but being a huge art fan and supporter of the arts in general, I decided to get a Philadelphia Museum of Art plate for my Porsche. It's just $40, and in my opinion more classy than a vanity plate. It has a nice little Griffin symbol, which I thought would be cool, but I expected the numbers to be random. Well, it came in the mail today. Check out the number!!!

Anyway... I just thought it was a cool plate. Useless thread over ;) :)

I don't think enough people here realize what a great place the PMoA is.

Spend a day there, look around. There are treasures there that most museums woould kill to have.

The basement (which I had the pleasure of getting a private tour through) is an amazing place, complete with a train station that never got completed.

Join up. Spend a day. Trust me, you'll go back again and again.

Oh, and yes, VERY COOL PLATE.

thats a bargain considering what people are paying for low numbers in other countries.

looks good, sure it will start a lot of conversations. Congrats!

a little off topic: how would you guys rate that museum compared to some of the more well known "world class" museums, like the Louvre, Prado, Met, etc.? I'm always up for a trip to the museum, but often find them somewhat disappointing in what they have on display. I'm not a fan of modern art at all, so that does tend to kill many of them. I've been suprised in the past though, like the Dali museum in Tampa... did not expect it to be nearly that large of a collection, but man-oh-man.

back on topic: so, I'm hoping its a brand new plate in PA then for that low of a number to be assigned?

Philly's collection is second only to the one in Paris. It is quite an amazing place.

I'm a huge art fan myself. Sad to say, I've never been there. I keep telling myself to go there and the Barnes. But i never have. This year for sure!

Thanks! And yes -- does seem like a bargain! Didn't a guy in the Gulf (forget if it was Dubai or Abu Dhabi) pay $14 million a day or two ago for the number 1? At least that went to charity.

That's the weird thing -- it is NOT a brand new plate series. I saw these plates on another car and remembered thinking they were cool, that's why I went to the Museum and asked about them in the first place. The plate I saw was definitely higher than 99. So I'm really not sure HOW I got that number, but hey, I love it and am not complaining :D

As for the museum itself, I agree with Dave. It is a very, very good museum. I would rank it in my top 5, and I have been to a LOT of museums, including the Met and the MOMA (NYC), the Louvre (Paris), the Kunsthistorisches (main art museum in Vienna), the Prado and the Reina Sofia (Madrid), the Guggenheims (NYC, LA and Bilbao (my favorite building in the world)), and the major museums in Rome, Venice, Florence, London, DC and half a dozen other cities... Sorry -- long list. The point is, Philly holds is own among all of these. I would strongly recommend a visit if you haven't been yet.

I just went to the museum last Sunday, and go a few times a year. On Sunday it is pay whatever you wish!! That is right you can see all the priceless art you want for whatever you can afford. Normal admission is like 10 or 12$ though, and you have to pay extra for the rotating exhibits currently frida Kahlo. Great place to walk around!

You know, the responses to this thread gave me an idea... How about a spring Museum Run? We could try to work something out with the Philly Museum one day, get some of the parking in the circle out front roped off and get a bunch of exotics in there... "Cars and Art" event -- I think it would have some appeal since so many of us consider these cars "rolling works of art"... This is premature given there's still snow on the ground, but if anyone's interested, it may be something to try to put together... Local media might like it, maybe bring in a few more members...We could have lunch in the Museum cafe, check out some exhibits...?

    What do you think? Dave...?

My Brother in Law works at the Museum. I'll get a contact name and see if they like the idea.

Might take a couple weeks. Maybe combine it wit ha small donation/fundraiser for the museum. Might be able to coordinate it with the PA-NJ FCA, I'll contact Pietro about that too.

We would need, I think, at least 10-12 exotics, different ones, to get them interested.

    Dave,
The museum holds the cars under the stars event each year which is a charity event that honored our favorite last year neurologist ;). For that event it was at an evening and a few cars were on display all around the museum from the Dr's collection. Let me know how you make out Dave

I was actually thinking about a charity component but wasn't sure what... Could tie it to art and education or something...
I'm sure we could get 12 cars -- "exotics" definition would have to include Porsche so I could come, as I am Ferrari-less at the moment...
Let me know know if I can help.

Exotic includes Porsche, just excludes most of the Japanese cars, most BMWs, Mercedes, and 98% of the domestic market.

I've had my Dino in a "Ferrari as Art" exhibition the last three years. Something like that might work. I'll see what I can work out.

Agreed :D My comment was mostly tongue-in-cheek. We've had the "what's an exotic" fight over in the NYTS section before I moved here so many times I think my head would implode if I had to go through it once again...

Absolutely. I wouldn't want this to happen on anything but a warm, sunny day. I'm thinking late April or May, not before... Let's see what Dave can find out, and I'll ask at my law firm as well (though I don't like to discuss my car(s) there, I'm sure we have contacts). Always nice to see a Barchetta.

Great idea on the museum run. Did anybody see the tv show on Ralph Laurens auto collection as art ? It was very well done. I also love art. The Hooper exhibit at the National gallery of art in DC was exceptional. I'd love to do a DC arts and cars as well if someone has connections . Jshiah, the Disney center for performing arts in LA , also by Geahry is a fantastic building as well as is his Bilbao museum.

I think this "Cars & Art" things sounds great! Would my Exige be considered "exotic" enough to be parked with everyone else out front? I could see this (personally) as a great opportunity to see the museum and meet some local f-chatters finally :)

I'll definitely be keeping tabs on where this goes. Count me in unless I'm on travel or something.

That really is cool, good luck right?

I saw a VW Toouraghueea with a black DE tag and the # 0 on it. No lie, at a dealership I worked for. Crazy.

How much does a tag like that go for???

Black tag #0 cannot be legal if I am correct. My guess is that someone was smart and put the letter O on a plate. The lowest is #1, which goes to the governor. The second and third go to the lt. governor and attorney general, respectively. The lowest available to the public is #4, which belongs to the wife of a deceased local bank tycoon. #6 just sold last weekend for $675,000 to a local real estate developer. Pretty interesting stuff, somone correct me if i'm wrong.

Now, back on topic, i'd be interested in attending as well. No "art" car to display for me, but I'd love to come as a spectator. Keep us posted on if you need help with anything. Fine art and exotic cars, what could be better!

Art Museum is out, they want basically $25K plus to do anything there.

I would love to help them out, but I'm not popping $25K for an after hours event.

They don't seem to grasp what I'm proposing.
