Where do I start. 1980/81 Bob Jane auction when he sold the Jaguar E-type lightweight 80 odd k.Same auction the Maserati 300s about 130k, told my father he just said no. about the same time down at Seaford car yard the Ferrari 225 about 20k,nagged my father he said no .Was sold and within a year sold again for about 80k. Lets here other tales.
Same, search this site for story, mentioned it B4 Was a green Miura SV, best Lambo. Gone but not forgotten Ciao M
the only thing i regret was nothing buying this property 2 years ago, They were asking for $750k, it was on the market for a year also, I put in an offer for $550k, the owner was willing to sell, the entire family was against it. it was then on the market for another 6 month, some idiot bought it for $780k. Prime location, had the best City view from both levels, has a permit for a 3 level extension. similar property with the size land / view easily go for $850k atm.
so many tales can be told. Another one for me was in about 1973, the white Ferrari 275GTB/4 that Adrian Ashton was selling 12,000k. Father had nearly said yes subject to drive, drove it and the gearbox broke,no deal. Was seen doing 130 mph around Albert Park in it that night.
'80, a 'just restored' Dino246 on Parramatta Rd Haberfield, going for $24k, went with my dad to buy it, he loved it, I loved it then he talked me out of buying it ..... couple of years into the BOOM car price thingy we're at the Sydney Motor Show and see the SAME car on a turntable with a sticker of $250k .... dad looks at me and says "it was your decision"
Kelsa, that's nothing, '73 was offered my uncle's beachfront bungalow on Burrill Lakes sth coast of NSW for $5k, I bought an E49 instead ($4,400) ... the property is now worth north of $1.5m, my old clunker would be worth nothing
Well, first house I bought cost 58K in 1983, but the house diagonally across from where I was living (before I bought the 58K house) was for sale at the same time for 61K. I preferred the cheaper house, 'cause it was only 10 years old, and had a newer bathrooms etc. Out of morbid curiosity, i've kept track of prices... Fast forward to 2007: The 58K house sold for 380K and the 61K house sold for 1.4M M
Lotus Elite circa 1962 model, might have been one of the only in Australia at that time - Leo Geoghegan tried to sell it to me - I nearly did the deal. Interesting car - 1600cc MGA motor - needed a bit of restoration but then a year or so later saw it all done up and beautiful, featured in one of the motor mags.
My old mans car. It was painted dark red by Paul Radford when he restored it. Paul sold it to my old man about 1983 for $110k. It stayed in the family till the mid 1990's and obviously I wish we still had it.
I remember going to school and telling my mates about, "Ferrari GTB275/4" How long was it white? alloy/steel? I think the trim was tan/biscuit. What happened to Adrian Ashton?
It was actually cream rather than white. Steel From memory the interior wasn't redone on the resto. It was tan when we had it. Still around as far as I know.
Luckliy, not too many for me but the single car I desire the most (At least for the street) is a 911 RS 2.7 When I bought the Glass 308 in 1997 it was either that or an RS, that's all I wanted. I ended up buying the 308 for $58,000. Jeff Dutton had Austin King's old Saraha yellow RS (IOY 911) for $92,000 at the same time. I offered $80K (Wondering where on earth I was going to get the money), but the deal didn't happen. Car eventually sold for $82K. That car would sell for probabaly 5 times the value of the best glass 308 now My Dad wishes he bought a R type continental back in 1983 when McDermott's (When they were in Sturt Street South Melbourne) had three of them on the floor ranging from $30K to $45K. Those were the days.... Other street cars I desire like Miura SV's, Ghibli's and 930's are getting cheaper, so maybe in the future! Regards, Carl.
R'Type classic, but a truck to drive. One came to Australia new, still here. Porsche RS 2.7 has always been on my list, but you know its easy to experience what they are like by building up a car. Image Unavailable, Please Login
No photos exist as far as I know. I have the factory build sheets which list the colour as Avorio, which is a creamy off white colour.
BlackJag, The Lotus was faded red when I saw it and that raw fibreglass yellow colour here and there inside but by the time it got in the magazine it was green, IIRC.
