next GP i will be flying over to watch and wondered if anyone wanted to join. i am looking into a corporate box which would suit about 40 people over the race weekend.
i don't know exact costs, i am waiting for the organisers to send me package contents etc... but its looking like $1000-$1600 per person depending on options. should include food and drinks for the whole 4 days etc...

so yeah if people are interested, just let me know and i will see if we can get numbers.

oh and if any of you that are interested in coming, I'm sure there might be opportunity for some signage for you company

Ok everyone, this is what we are looking at.

From the looks of it, a FULL booking of 40+ people isn’t going to be needed, so smaller numbers are ok. Most of the private tents are booked out anyway…

Our main option would be a shared box, which works like buying an individual grandstand ticket except you’re in a box with other randoms.

Price wise it’s also a smarter option. Private tents work out cheaper per person….. BUT…. Then you have to purchase food/drink packages as per bellow ($720 per person for the 4 days minimum)

So I guess the option is where we want to sit. I haven’t been to the Melb GP so I’m open to opinions.

    Option 1 – Private box + Food (40 people min) - $2390 per person roughly… including food/drink ($1600ish without food/drink)

    PRIVATE * | $66,800 40-person, 4-day package

» Open-fronted marquee structure with solid internal walls

» Fully carpeted inside, artificial grass in grandstand

» Grandstand seats at the front of the box

» Option to theme the inside of your facility, with access to the circuit before the event*

» Option to hire additional facility items (additional cost), e.g. furniture and greenery*

» Facility entrance sign denoting your company/group name

» Dining tables to suit your needs

» One host pass with each facility purchased

» Your choice of name printed on your corporate tickets*

» A four-day corporate ticket, with individual tickets provided per day

» Flat screen televisions showing GPTV live

    » Superscreen viewing

» One back of barrier advertising sign per 20-person booking

    » Sunscreen and earplugs

» One official programme per four-day ticket purchased

Option 2 – Chicane Skybox Roof - $1990 per person which includes food/drink

Shared | $1,990 per person (fully inclusive of food and beverages)

    Features include:

» Reserved undercover seat in the Chicane Skybox Roof

» Cash bar in dining marquee for spirits

» Reserved dining seat per person in the Chicane Skybox dining marquee

» Hosts to assist you and your guests in the Chicane Skybox Roof dining marquee

» Your choice of name printed on your corporate tickets*

» A four-day corporate ticket, with individual tickets provided per day

» Projection screens showing GPTV live in the dining marquee

    » Partial superscreen viewing

» One back of barrier advertising sign per 20-person booking

    » Sunscreen and earplugs

» One official programme per four-day ticket purchased

Option 3 – Pit Exit Suite – includes some pit walk passes.

SHARED | $1,995 per person (fully inclusive of food and beverages)

    Features include:

    » Full table service

    » Evaporative cooling

» Glass-fronted dining area plus outdoor undercover viewing deck

» A combination of grandstand seats and a viewing deck with outdoor free-standing pedestal tables

» Reserved dining seat in Trackside dining

» A facility host to assist you and your guests

» Your choice of name printed on your corporate tickets*

» A four-day corporate ticket, with individual tickets provided per day

» Flat screen televisions showing GPTV live

    » Superscreen viewing

» One back of barrier advertising sign per 20-person booking

    » Sunscreen and earplugs

» One official programme per four-day ticket purchased

Option 4 – Four Corners Package – grandstand seating with a different seat each day. (Various combinations available) $389 - $439

    Option 5 – Pick one Grand stand - $359 - $659 depending on where.

I just go general admission on Friday/Saturday. I have done the box thing half a dozen times and unless you want to get pissed, eat heaps and ignore the race I don't see the value. IMHO of course.

having not been to melb GP.... if you have grand stand tickets, does that allow you into certain sections of the track or does it just get you into the grandstand.
here in adelaide, its almost like GA and the Members sections. half and half with the members/grandstand seating areas having access to special car displays etc..

No doubt the more expensive seats get you into more areas. I like going general admission so you can go to all the parts of the race circuit and see coverage on the big TV's as well. I am interested in the racing rather than eating and drinking and watching one small area of the track for four days.

GA tickets get you into the displays; but doesnt give you pit walks and all that stuff.

I been a few times to Melb GP, most recent this year... I always get grandstands.

The Grandstand tix get you access to all areas surrounding any grandstand as well as general area. At the front Gate 1 entrance that is grandstand access only which usually has a huge tent for F1 gear, but these tents are found in general area too and then you can walk over the track to the inside of the track and there is the road that leads to the pits, thats the road everyone(drivers etc) get driven to the pit entrance. You can usually get a signature or 3 if you enjoy waiting at 7am :) (that's grandstand only area too)

To get access behind the pits then you need those trusty GP Paddock passes which are like $3k a pop.

There are a few corners which are corp box only locations and only corp box ppl have access to.

All the tents with interactive **** and like the shannons cars are usually in the general admin section in the middle of the park.

I highly recommend walking over the pontoon bridge at some point :)

General area at the back http://www.coresworld.net//MelbGP08/img_5556.htm
The stand I was in this year, aross the track that white tent is a corp box http://www.coresworld.net//MelbGP08/img_5599.htm

The fences are high due to that accident where the marshall died http://www.coresworld.net//MelbGP08/img_5653.htm
Some corp boxes @ pit exit. They have a deck above the seats where you can stand http://www.coresworld.net//MelbGP08/img_5682.htm

I didn't take many pics this year but you get the idea :)

Thank you for this post, very informative. 09 will be my first time at a GP and I am very excited about it, I think I will go for my original plan of grandstand tickets, this might sound like a silly question, but having never been to a GP it is somewhat a mystery to me, will a grandstand pass get me to the area where they sell the Ferrari merchandise? And, if I may, one other question, do they have big-screens visible from every grandstand? I am definitely there for the racing and I would like to take a souvenir away with me. :)

thanks for that... appreciate it. damn those fences are huge!!!! looks like a prison! clipsal 500 has the corporate boxes above the fence line.
im thinking if you want a clean view of the track you will need to be high up in a stand.
maybe a grandstand ticket might be the way to go...

Digging up my 05 pics, there are afew different type of corp box avaliable, some are above the fence line depends on the location.

Im sitting in the Jones stand for these pics and across the way is Brabham stand. They too have the white tent which is the box part then like the top 10 rows are all reserved for the corp box section.

    Also Michelin man found

Yeah the merchandise is avalible for everyone, there are afew tents, tho usually the tent near (gate 1) is the biggest tent.

Tho the best advice I can give is that 99.99% of the stuff sold at the track you can buy either in the city at the temp F1 store fronts that are about, at Lygon St where every Ferrari fan must go to eat hehe or just outside Gate 1 there is a pub and near that is a store that sells Ferrari gear. Ofcourse buying in the city usually saves you about $10 an item. Its rare to find something that is a track exclusive besides maybe the Ferrari jackets which are all sold by Friday so if you plan to buy anything at the track get it straight away, else it wont be there by Sunday. Can also get a special GP Port.

The Big screens usually cover most corners but they not really that big, you prob struggle to read the font on the screen at times and of course forget about actually hearing anything when the cars come past  but still all the stands I have been on, they have provided screens. Tho of recent years you can hire these portable TV's called KangaTV(or something) which is an alternative,

http://www.grandprix.com.au/default.aspx?s=circuit_map The map is abit busy but you can check out the stands and where the displays are.

Yeah bring lots of money, caps usually start @ $50 a pop

I agree with 360C. You see a lot more by wandering around the circuit. Going grandstand makes you feel compelled to take your seat and you miss out on a lot. The areas that are only accessible to grandstand and corporate ticketholders has shruken a lot in recent years.
